Lincoln, Neb.--Two recent Department of Art and Art History alumni are featured in the exhibition titled "Of the Land" at Lincoln's Prescott Gallery.

"Of the Land" is an exhibition of photographs by Nathan Kathol, a December 2015 BFA graduate from Lincoln, Neb., and wall-mounted sculptures by Chase McClaren, an August 2015 BFA graduate from Grand Island, Neb.  Both artists are recipients of the Perry Family Award.

Kathol’s photographs depict scenes from Cedar County, Nebraska,—a community breaking the stereotype of small town economic distress.  Using color film, a medium often forgotten and considered obsolete much like rural small towns, Kathol captures images to document the beauty, history and economic growth of this community.

Using natural elements and synthetic materials, McClaren creates compositions that pair geometric designs with subtle organic variations.  Highlighting the natural process of decay, McClaren’s artworks reference the tension between the human need to control the environment and the wild forces of nature.

"Of the Land" will be open from Jan. 8- 30 with a reception on Saturday, Jan. 9 from 5-7 p.m. Gallery hours are Friday and Saturday 11 a.m.- 4 p.m.

The Prescott Gallery Shop will feature ceramics, paintings and photographs by Phil Perry.  Proceeds from the sale of Perry’s work will be donated to the We Care Endowment.
