Hixson-Lied Undergraduate Scholarships

Description

The Hixson-Lied Undergraduate Scholarships are non-renewable, one-year, merit/talent-based scholarship awards for incoming in-state or out-of-state Freshman students, as well as for transfer students new to UNL. Up to 30 scholarships, equal to up to 25% of in-state or out-of-state tuition, will be awarded each year.


Eligibility

  1. Students must meet all College entrance requirements for eligibility.
  2. Students will be judged on an audition and/or portfolio review and/or review of academic credentials, as appropriate in each academic unit.
  3. Students must declare their major in a unit within the College.
  4. Students must make satisfactory progress toward the requirements in their major, as defined in each academic unit.
  5. Scholarships will be paid out by semester, 50% in the fall and 50% in the spring (based on continued eligibility). No awards will be given for summer.

Application Process

In order to be considered, applicants must do the following:

Art and Art History Majors (including graphic design) : Visit http://go.unl.edu/artscholarships and complete the "Art & Art History Undergraduate Scholarship Application.” Please anticipate that the application will ask you to submit a personal statement outlining your interests and goals for your time at UNL, and it will ask you to upload two letters of recommendation, and a portfolio of your artwork (6-15 pieces).

Theatre, Music, and Dance majors must submit the following

  • the application form (download below);
  • two letters of recommendation in envelopes which have been signed across the back seal; and
  • a portfolio of work accomplished (students in Film and New Media, or Theatre Design/Tech)
    OR
    a performance audition (students in Theatre Performance, Dance, or Music).

For majors in dance or music, please make sure that you have scheduled or already have performed an audition. Music or Dance auditions can be scheduled online at: arts.unl.edu/music/undergraduate-audition-request-form-music-dance. NOTE: Only one performance audition is required for consideration for both admission and for a Hixson-Lied Undergraduate Scholarship.

(All theatre performance, music, and dance applicants must complete a performance audition to gain admittance. These admission auditions will also fulfill the audition requirement for the Hixson-Lied Undergraduate Scholarship. No additional audition will be required.).

Application

Completed applications must be postmarked or submitted by March 1 to be considered for the 2017–2018 year. Music, Dance, and Theatre applications should be sent to the student's respective department (addresses below). Art and Art History applications (including graphic design) should be submitted via SlideRoom at the following URL: https://go.unl.edu/artscholarships.
