Annual Undergrad Studio Art Competition opens

Lincoln, Neb. - The Department of Art and Art History's 26th Annual Undergraduate Studio Art Competition opens March 15 and continues through March 29 at the Eisentrager-Howard Gallery in Richards Hall on the UNL city campus.

Gallery hours are Monday-Friday, 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. A closing reception and announcement of awards will take place on Friday, March 29 from 5-7 p.m. in the Gallery, which is located on the first floor of Richards Hall at Stadium Drive and T streets.

The exhibition includes the artwork of 53 undergraduate students who have been enrolled in a studio art class in the Department of Art and Art History at UNL within the past 12 months.

The awards to be presented included the Jean R. Faulkner Memorial Awards (six $100 awards), the Department of Art and Art History Freshman and Sophomore Awards ($100 each) and the Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts Dean's Purchase Award.

This year's juror is Karin Campbell, curator of contemporary art at Joslyn Art Museum in Omaha. From 2006-2009, Campbell was curatorial assistant in the contemporary art department at Carnegie Museum of Art. She was responsible for many aspects of planning Life on Mars, the 55th Carnegie International, the oldest exhibition of international contemporary art in North America and the second oldest in the world.
