Professor and Director of Choral Activities Peter Eklund will be conducting a massed honor choir with professional orchestra at New York City’s Carnegie Hall this Sunday, Feb. 16.

Eklund will be conducting one of the classical music era’s most endearing choral orchestra works, “Mass in G,” by Franz Schubert.

He also hired the soloists for the work. All three are professional New York singers and former choral students of Eklund’s, including two from UNL: Arica Coleman (B.M. 2012) and Adam Fieldson (M.M. 2013 and B.M. 2010).

Eklund has been a frequent conductor at Carnegie Hall and is invited because of his long-standing relationship with the New York Sinfonia and New York arts management leaders.

The following weekend, Eklund will travel to Georgia for a return engagement of conducting the Georgia High School Men's All-State Choir. Future engagements include conducting the South Dakota Mixed All-State Choir and also the renowned Iowa All-State Mixed Chorus.

Eklund was recently named one of the national quarterfinalists for the first-ever Grammy® National Music Teacher of the Year award out of more than 30,000 nominees.

He has taught at UNL since 1998.
