Maestro Hal France to preview Lincoln, Omaha Opera Aug. 16

Lincoln, Neb.--Showcasing talented young performers from UNL Opera, nationally acclaimed Maestro Hal France takes a conductor’s view of operatic storytelling for "Opera:  Running Through Us" on Sunday, Aug. 16 at 1 p.m. at the Van Brunt Visitors Center. Using classic video and audio footage and live performance he will share his insights into this extraordinary art form. Along with examples chosen to highlight opera’s uniqueness, he will include golden moments from productions coming to Lincoln and Omaha this season.
 
Presented by Friends of Opera and The Friends of The Ross Media Arts Center, this event is free and open to the public, and will be held in the Van Brunt Visitor's Center (adjoining The Ross) on Sunday, August 16 at 1:00 p.m. Complimentary food and beverages will be provided from The Coffee House.
 
The event will include previews of the new upcoming Metropolitan Opera HD series at the Ross (including Madama Butterfly, pictured above), Opera Omaha’s 2015-16 Season and the UNL Opera Season.
 
Opera majors from the University of Nebraska- Lincoln Glenn Korff School of Music will perform scenes from Don Giovanni, The Barber of Seville and Madame Butterfly.   The ensemble will include sopranos Leana Wolt and Katie Pacza, mezzo-soprano, Jenny Smith and baritones Jay Colwell and Jesse Wohlman.  Special guest soprano Talea Bloch will sing the aria Un Bel Di from Madama Butterfly.
