Theatrix, the student-operated theatre organization under the Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, culminates it’s fall 2012 season with "Melancholy Play" by Tony Award nominated playwright Sarah Ruhl.

"Melancholy Play" will run Nov. 29 - Dec. 1 at 7:30 p.m. in the Lab Theatre, located on the 3rd floor of the Temple Building, 12th and R streets in Lincoln, Neb. Individual show tickets are $6 via credit card (some user fees may be applied) at unltheatretickets.com or at the door the evening of the events (subject to availability).

Tilly is beautiful and melancholy. Everyone she meets falls in love with her. Then one day she is suddenly happy—and things get very strange. An unexpected story of melancholy in a post-pharmaceutical world, "Melancholy Play" is an irrational play with a highly rational live cellist.

Director Joshua Waterstone, a second year MFA student in the Directing for Stage and Screen program, and stage manager Ben Adams, an undergraduate in the Directing and Management emphasis, work side-by-side on this peculiar comedy about sadness.

The show’s design team comes from UNL’s Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film. Though this is not her first time working on a Theatrix production, this is technical and design graduate student Vicki Halverson’s first set design for the Johnny Carson School. Joining her are two other technical and design graduate students, Erica King as Props Master and Julie Douglass as the Costume Designer. They are accompanied by undergraduate theatre student and lighting designer, Sarah Resch.

Jake Denney, a recent graduate of UNL’s Carson School, is the live cellist, playing Michael Roth’s score composed for the L.A. production. Undergraduate music student, Jaimie Pruden, composed the music sung by the cast. Technical direction is overseen by second year technical graduate student Matt Rightmire.
