calendar icon28 Feb 2013

Theatrix, the student-operated theatre organization at the Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film, will mount Rajiv Joseph’s "Gruesome Playground Injuries," directed by undergraduate acting major Billy Jones. Performances are March 7-9 at 7:30 p.m. and on March 10 at 2:00 p.m. in the Lab Theatre located on the 3rd floor of the Temple Building, 12th and R streets.

Over the course of 30 years, the lives of Kayleen and Doug intersect at the most bizarre intervals, leading the two childhood friends to compare scars and the physical calamities that keep drawing them together. Kayleen is played by Kirstie Smith and Doug is played by Patrick Stayer, both undergraduates.

The scenic design has been provided by newcomer, Zach Trout. Zach’s design is paired with undergraduate technical and design student Travis Triplett’s lighting design. Undergraduate technical and design major Joe Shea enhances the play’s atmosphere with his sound design. Costumes are headed by undergraduate theatre design major Katie Davis. Katie and fellow undergraduate design major Sydney Tillotson tackle the lofty task of makeup design for this show as a team.

Props mistress and Theatrix veteran Alma Ceretta handles all of the ins and outs of what is carried on stage. Technical director, second year graduate technical theater major Matt Rightmire and stage manager Ben Adams, an undergraduate theatre major in the directing and management program, pull the entire operation together. Altogether this design team takes audience members through 30 years of love, scars, and an unconventional love story.

Individual show tickets are $6 via credit card (some user fees may be applied) at unltheatretickets.com or by cash at the door the evening of a performance (subject to availability).
