UNL Wind Ensemble opens season October 8

calendar icon24 Sep 2014

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln Glenn Korff School of Music Wind Ensemble begins its 2014-2015 season with a study of contrasts, juxtaposing the expected and the unexpected at 7:30 p.m. on October 8 in Kimball Recital Hall. The performance will also be live webcast.

The concert will have a distinctly American flavor with the works of Ives, Copland, Newman, Forte, and Bernstein seasoned with a dash of international flair from Stravinsky and Schmidt. From a gentle ballad inspired by the poetry of Leah Goldberg to a polka composed to accompany the dancing of elephants in the Ringling Bros., Barnum and Bailey Circus (choreographed by George Balanchine), from a good old-fashioned march to a sonic homage to French Impressionist painting, this program has something for everyone.

If you’ve never heard the UNL Wind Ensemble, this is a great opportunity to sample the full range this band has to offer. Cost to attend the event is $5 for general admission and $3 for students/seniors. To view the live webcast the night of the event, visit music.unl.edu.
