LINCOLN, Neb.— Momoro Ono, visiting instructor of piano at the Glenn Korff School of Music, will present a solo recital on Thursday, April 9 at 7:30 p.m. in Kimball Recital Hall on the University of Nebraska-Lincoln campus.

The recital, free and open to the public, will include the Bach-Brahms Chaconne for the left hand, sonatas by Haydn & Schubert and Trois Mouvements de Pétrouchka, arranged by Stravinsky himself.

Born in Yokohama, Japan, Ono studied piano in the United States, initially with Kathryna Barone at the Bryn Mawr Conservatory near Philadelphia. He later moved to Baltimore where he worked with Barbara English Maris and Julian Martin. At the Juilliard School, he studied with Adele Marcus under full scholarship as a recipient of the William Petschek Piano Scholarship and received his Bachelor's and Master's degrees. At the Peabody Conservatory, he studied with Leon Fleisher under full scholarship and received his Artist Diploma and Doctorate. Chamber music studies include classes with Felix Galimir, Samuel Sanders and Earl Carlyss at Juilliard. While studying at Peabody, he and his violinist wife, Heejoung Kim, received coaching from members of the Guarneri Quartet. This led to the formation of the Kimono Duo, which has given numerous recitals in the U.S. Dr. Ono's orchestral appearances include those with the Baltimore Symphony and the Pittsburgh Symphony-which was broadcast live on NPR. Dr. Ono has given numerous recitals in the U.S., including one at the Kennedy Center concert hall. He has performed chamber music in Glasgow and toured Japan as well. In 1980, Dr. Ono won the Silver Medal at the Three Rivers International Piano Competition and a first prize at the Gina Bachauer Memorial Competition at Juilliard. He was featured on WQXR's Young Artists Showcase.

In recent years, Dr. Ono has given numerous recitals at Creighton University, where he has been teaching since 2008, Seoul National University (where he also gave a master class), and the University of Alaska at Anchorage (where he also judged a piano competition).
