Alumna Cobb earns 2024-2025 Fulbright

Lincoln, Neb.--Laura Cobb, who earned a Master of Fine Arts from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln in May 2023, has received a 2024-25 Fulbright U.S. Student Program award to work on a photography project in Germany.

5 graphic design students earn ADDYs

Lincoln, Neb.--Five graphic design students in the School of Art, Art History & Design took home ADDY Awards in the Nebraska American Advertising Awards.

“The Nebraska American Advertising Awards are a fantastic opportunity for our UNL graphic design students to get noticed not just locally, but across the region and country,” said Assistant Professor of Practice in Graphic Design Jen Landis. “Winning a gold or silver ADDY puts our students a step above in the design world – it's a significant achievement.”

UNL Symphony perform May 10

Lincoln, Neb.—The University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s Symphony Orchestra will perform their season finale “Beethoven’s ‘Eroica’” on Friday, May 10 at 7:30 p.m. at St. Paul United Methodist Church. The concert is free and open to the public.

The Symphony Orchestra is under the direction of Glenn Korff School of Music Professor of Composition and Conducting and Director of Orchestras Tyler White. Ramón Araújo, Kate Mathews and Manuel Monge-Mata are the graduate associate conductors.

The Clay Club’s spring sale is May 10-11 in Richards Hall Rm. 118. A photo and printmaking sale will also be held on those same dates in Richards Hall.

University of Nebraska–Lincoln student art sales are May 10-11

Lincoln, Neb.— The University of Nebraska–Lincoln School of Art, Art History & Design is hosting art sales in ceramics, printmaking and photography on May 10-11 in Richards Hall. 

Hours for the sales are Friday, May 10 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday, May 11 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission to the sales is free and open to the public. Cash, checks and credit cards will be accepted at both sales.

Capstone Exhibition opens May 10

Lincoln, Neb.--The University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s School of Art, Art History & Design will present the work of graduating undergraduate students in the Spring 2024 Capstone Exhibition this May.

This biannual experience is held at the end of the fall and spring semesters and presents the work of each semester’s graduating Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) and Bachelor of Fine Arts (B.F.A.) seniors in studio art and graphic design as a culmination of their coursework and exploration.

University Singers present ‘Carmina Burana’

Lincoln, Neb.--University Singers, the historic, flagship choir of the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, will perform Carl Orff’s masterpiece, “Carmina Burana” on Tuesday, April 30 at 7:30 p.m. at First Plymouth Congregational Church.

The concert is free and open to the public. The total musical work runs about one hour.

Registration is open for Lied Piano Academy

Lincoln, Neb.--The Lied Center for Performing Arts and the Glenn Korff School of Music will host the annual Lied Center Piano Academy July 15-19, led by Marguerite Scribante Professor of Piano Paul Barnes, who serves as artistic director.

The academy is designed for students entering grades 9 through their first year of college in fall 2024 and is tailored toward serious intermediate and advanced students interested in gaining professional-level instruction and guidance to raise their performance level and understanding of piano music.

Hixson-Lied Faculty, Staff Awards announced

Lincoln, Neb.--The Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts has announced the 2024 recipients of the Hixson-Lied Faculty and Staff awards.

The ongoing awards program for faculty and staff recognizes outstanding performance and accomplishments in the areas of teaching; research and creative activity; service, outreach and engagement; and staff service.

The following faculty and staff awards will be presented at the college’s Honors Day celebration on April 26.

‘Big Fish’ provides big opportunities for collaboration

Ceramic alumnus Buller earns prestigious honors

Lincoln, Neb.--School of Art, Art History & Design alumnus Larry Buller (M.E. 2006; M.F.A. 2017) has earned two recent prestigious honors: A McKnight Artist Fellowship and being named a Ceramics Monthly Emerging Artist for 2024.

Buller was at the Northern Clay Center in Minneapolis from Jan. 1 through March 31 for the McKnight Fellowship.
