University Singers to perform ‘Messiah’
Lincoln, Neb.--The University Singers will present George Friderik Handel’s seminal choral work, “Messiah,” at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 27 at the Newman Center.
The concert is free and open to the public. The Newman Center is located at 320 N. 16th St. in Lincoln.
Handel himself conducted “Messiah” more than 30 times during his lifetime, nearly always at the Easter season and never in December.

2 Carson Center professors have work at WOW Festival 2023

Halvorson, Anderson are Hixson-Lied Visiting Artists April 27
Lincoln, Neb.—The final two Hixson-Lied Visiting Artists this spring, painter Josephine Halvorson and graphic designer Ryan Anderson, will present on Thursday, April 27.
Halvorson will present a Hixson-Lied Visiting Artist Lecture at 5:30 p.m. in Richards Hall Rm. 15. Anderson will present a graphic design workshop at 7 p.m. in Woods Art Building Rm. 105. Both events are free and open to the public.

Submissions open for Black Public Media residency at Carson Center
Lincoln, Neb.--Black Public Media (BPM) and the Johnny Carson Center for Emerging Media Arts are continuing a collaboration for the second year on a new residency for Black filmmakers, creative technologists and artists who need access to emerging technology, studio time or work space.
The in-person residency was launched at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln during the summer of 2022.

Two UNL photography students win SPE Student Awards
Lincoln, Neb.—Two graduate students in the University of Nebraska–Lincoln School of Art, Art History & Design have received the Society for Photographic Education (SPE) Student Awards for Innovations in Imaging.
Laura Cobb and Jamie Ho were only two of five recipients nationally for the awards. Awards are offered based on merits of submitted portfolios and include a travel stipend to attend the annual conference held March 16-19 in Denver, an annual conference fee waiver and a one-year membership to SPE.

Ladely to retire after 50 years leading the Ross
Lincoln, Neb.—His name is synonymous with film at Nebraska, and after a 50-year career, Danny Lee Ladely is retiring as Director of the Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, effective July 3.
A national search will begin soon for a new leader of The Ross, and normal operations of The Ross will continue.
