2023 Nebraska Young Artist Award recipients announced
Lincoln, Neb.--The University of Nebraska–Lincoln Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts has announced the 59 winners of the 26th annual Nebraska Young Artist Awards.
The Nebraska Young Artist Awards annually recognize 11th grade students from Nebraska who are gifted and talented in the areas of visual art, dance, music, theatre, and film and emerging media arts.

Garrett publishes choral music anthology by Black composers
Lincoln, Neb.--Glenn Korff School of Music Assistant Professor of Music in Choral Activities Marques L.A. Garrett compiled and edited “The Oxford Book of Choral Music by Black Composers,” published in February by Oxford University Press (OUP). The book aims to address an historical lack of representation of Black musicians and composers in the choral canon.

Nebraska Repertory Theatre Presents ‘Stop Kiss’

Print media-based artist Richards is next Hixson-Lied Visiting Artist Lecturer on March 8
Lincoln, Neb.—Print media-based artist Kat Richards will present the next Hixson-Lied Visiting Artist Lecture on Wednesday, March 8.

UNL Opera on tour in March with ‘La Traviata’
Lincoln, Neb.--The Glenn Korff School of Music’s opera program will be going on tour in Nebraska with three performances of Verdi’s “La Traviata” in March in Ord, Scottsbluff and Lincoln.

UNL dance program to host regional dance conference
Lincoln, Neb.--The Glenn Korff School of Music’s dance program will be hosting the 2023 American College Dance Association (ACDA) North-Central Conference March 12-15 in Lincoln.
More than 330 people from 22 universities are currently registered to attend the conference, which is themed “Meeting in the Middle.” The region includes Nebraska, Iowa, Wisconsin, Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota. Participants from additional states may attend as well.

Long’s film places in Top 5 of Louisiana Film Prize
Lincoln, Neb.--David Long, associate professor of theatre in the Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film, created his first short film, “Betty Lou Had a Son.” The film earned Top 5 honors in the 2022 Louisiana Film Prize competition and will have a screening in March at the Omaha Film Festival.
