Art alum featured for his visual effects work for the return of Luke Skywalker in ‘The Mandalorian’

Lincoln, Neb.--Husker alumnus Trent Claus (B.F.A. 2006) is featured on the recent episode of “Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian” to discuss his work on the Disney+ TV series “The Mandalorian,” bringing Luke Skywalker back to the Star Wars franchise.

The episode exploring the making of the Season 2 finale and telling the story of the cutting-edge technology used to bring Luke Skywalker back premiered on Aug. 25 exclusively on Disney+.

Cornhusker Marching Band makes debut Sept. 4

Lincoln, NE--The University of Nebraska–Lincoln's 296-member Cornhusker Marching Band makes its 2021 debut Sept. 4 at Memorial Stadium with pregame and halftime performances at Nebraska's football home opener against Fordham.

It will be the band’s first in-person performance at the stadium since November 2019.

Robert Owens Ensemble earns finalist judges’ citation in The American Prize competition

Lincoln, Neb.--The Robert Owens Ensemble was awarded a Finalist Judges’ Citation for “Championing the Music of Robert Owens” in the 2020 American Prize Competition.

The ensemble includes three Glenn Korff School of Music faculty: Jamie Reimer Seaman, soprano; Karen Becker, cello; and Clark Potter, viola. The ensemble also includes pianist Stacie Haneline.

Hixson-Lied Visiting Artist series begins Sept. 1 with painter Ortiz

Lincoln, Neb.--Five artists will be presenting Hixson-Lied Visiting Artist & Scholar lectures this fall in the University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s School of Art, Art History & Design. The series begins with painter and muralist Ana Maria Ortiz (Ana Marietta) on Wednesday, Sept. 1.

The School of Art, Art History & Design’s Hixson-Lied Visiting Artist & Scholar Lecture Series brings notable artists, scholars and designers to Nebraska each semester to enhance the education of students.

42 students selected for new Carson Center cohort

Lincoln, Neb.--Forty-two students, including 26 high school students and 16 transfer students, have been selected to join the latest cohort of the University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s Johnny Carson Center for Emerging Media Arts.

This is the third and largest cohort for the center, which opened in the fall of 2019.

Painting strokes build "The Human Connection"

Lincoln, Neb.--University of Nebraska–Lincoln students added their painting strokes to a canvas on April 26 to build “The Human Connection.”

The event was organized by Alex Cathcart, a junior mathematics major focusing in finance and statistics; Taylor Hoskinson, a sophomore advertising and public relations major; and Jack Dobson, a freshman psychology major. It was sponsored by the Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts Undergraduate Student Advisory Board.

Sheldon’s fall exhibition on waste organized by Anania

Lincoln, Neb.--Assistant Professor of Art History Katie Anania has organized the exhibition “The Nature of Waste: Material Pathways, Discarded Worlds,” which opens Aug. 13 at Sheldon Museum of Art. The exhibition continues through Dec. 31.

Trash and waste produced by human beings now exceed the combined weight of all life forms on the planet. The exhibition takes an interdisciplinary approach to waste products, showing how artists have used and depicted castoffs, junk, detritus and ruins in the 20th and 21st centuries.

Cornhusker Marching Band exhibition concert is Aug. 20

Lincoln, Neb.--The Cornhusker Marching Band’s annual exhibition concert returns Friday, Aug. 20 at 7 p.m. in Memorial Stadium. The concert is free and open to the public.

The annual concert will present highlights of what the Cornhusker Marching Band has been working on during their pre-season Band Camp, including the famous “drill down” and a preview of the first halftime show.

Williams takes ‘Stay Wild’ community art project to Alliance
