Hixson-Lied Visiting Artist series presents photographer Doherty Oct. 9

Lincoln, Neb.—Photographer Dorinth Doherty will present the next Hixson-Lied Visiting Artist & Scholar lecture this fall in the University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s School of Art, Art History & Design.

Doherty’s lecture is Oct. 9. Each lecture takes place at 5:30 p.m. in Richards Hall Rm. 15. The lectures are free and open to the public.

‘On Love and Lost Contentment’ performance on October 13

LINCOLN, Neb.— Some of the richest art songs come from the early 20th century. Many of these composers' songs are well known, but others, like Lili Boulanger, Othmar Schoeck, Peter Warlock, and Castelnuovo-Tedesco are not as well known to American audiences. This recital, "On Love and Lost Contentment," will showcase their art songs as well as others on Sunday, October 13 at 3 p.m. in Kimball Recital Hall.

It features vocal coach and accompanist Ellen Rissinger and UNL Glenn Korff School of Music faculty member, tenor Kevin Hanrahan.

Big Red Singers hosts fall festival workshop, joint performance

LINCOLN, Neb.— The University of Nebraska-Lincoln Glenn Korff School of Music Big Red Singers will be hosting their first-ever fall festival workshop that will feature guest high school choirs, workshops with the visiting guest high school choirs during the afternoon, and a 7:30 p.m. evening concert by all in Kimball Recital Hall on Sunday, October 13. This will mark the third performance by Big Red Singers following a performance in the new HUDL building for the Nebraska Law College, and their contributions during Homecoming weekend.

UNL Symphonic Band opens the season with ‘Cornerstones’

LINCOLN, Neb.— Join the Symphonic Band, conducted by Tony Falcone, for the opening concert of their 2019-2020 Season with a program titled, Cornerstones, on Thursday, October 10 at 7:30 p.m. in Kimball Recital Hall.

Four seminal works for wind band will be featured: Emblems, by Aaron Copland; Gustav Holst’s Second Suite in F; Fanfare and Allegro by Clifton Williams; and Gordon Jacob’s William Byrd Suite.

Jazz season begins with Oct. 9 concert

Lincoln, Neb.--The Glenn Korff School of Music begins the 2019-2020 jazz season with a new pairing of ensembles. 

The Jazz Orchestra and Jazz Singers (formerly known as the Vocal Jazz Ensemble), both under the direction of Lecturer David von Kampen, will perform Oct. 9 at 7:30 p.m. in Kimball Recital Hall. Tickets are $5 general and $3 students/seniors and are available at the door.

‘Lincoln Collects’ exhibition features private collection of Steve Wake

Lincoln, Neb.--“Lincoln Collects: The Steve Wake Collection” exhibition opens Friday, Oct. 4 at the Eisentrager-Howard Gallery in Richards Hall.

The exhibition will be on display from Oct. 4-Nov. 1, with an opening reception on Oct. 4 and a closing reception on Nov. 1—both are First Fridays and last from 5-7 p.m.

The exhibition is the first in an ongoing series hosted by the University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s School of Art, Art History & Design to showcase works belonging to notable art collectors in the Lincoln area.

Anderson recital scheduled for September 25 postponed

LINCOLN, Neb.— Scott Anderson of the Glenn Korff School of Music has postponed his September 25 recital, which was scheduled to take place in the Kimball Recital Hall. A new date will be announced in the future.
