Borden to teach stage combat for production in Spain
Lincoln, Neb.--Associate Professor of Theatre Arts Ian Borden will be traveling to Spain in May for a week to teach stage combat and choreograph the fights and battles for a production of “Numancia” by Francisco de Rojas Zorrilla.
He will be at Escuela Pública de Formación Cultural de Andalucía, an elite training program, located in Malaga, Spain.

Korff School senior finishes 2nd in 2019 North American Vocal Competition
Lincoln, Neb.--Abby Kurth, a senior vocal performance major and theatre minor in the Glenn Korff School of Music from Bettendorf, Iowa, was awarded 2nd place in the 2019 North American Vocal Competition sponsored by music publisher Hal Leonard.
More than 1,000 student entries were received in this year’s annual competition. Kurth’s award was in the collegiate music theatre category for male and female young adult voices, and she was judged the highest-scoring female singer in the competition.

Theatrix concludes its season with 'This is War'
Lincoln, Neb.--Theatrix, the student-run theatre company within the Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, concludes its 2018-2019 season with This is War, written by Hannah Moscovitch and directed by University of Nebraska student Christa Retka.

Nebraska Repertory Theatre closes its season with "Hair"
Lincoln, Neb.--The Nebraska Repertory Theatre, Nebraska’s Actors’ Equity Association professional regional theatre, closes its 50th Anniversary year season with HAIR, book and lyrics by Gerome Ragni & James Rado, with music by Galt MacDermot. HAIR was produced for the Broadway stage by Michael Butler and was originally produced by the New York Shakespeare Festival Theatre. Nebraska Rep’s production is directed by Andy Park with music direction by Vince Learned.

Hoff receives grant from Merops Foundation for excavation work in Turkey
Lincoln, Neb.--School of Art, Art History & Design Professor of Art History Michael Hoff received a $52,800 grant from The Merops Foundation to support the Antiochia ad Cragum archaeological research excavation in Turkey this summer.
It was his third recent grant from the foundation, which also awarded him $30,000 in 2017 and $42,000 last year.

Amore String Quartet earns third place at MTNA
The Amore String Quartet has returned from earning third place at the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) Competition-Chamber Music String. The Quartet includes undergrads Claudia Holm, An Tran, Travis Taylor and Riley Beranek.
In preparation for the competition, the Amore String Quartet increased its rehearsal time to four or five days a week. They also invited friends to a mock performance to simulate the competition environment.

In Memoriam: Norm Hollyn
Lincoln, Neb.--Norman Hollyn, a member of the Advisory Council for the Johnny Carson Center for Emerging Media Arts, died March 17. He was 66. Hollyn was a professor of cinematic arts and the inaugural holder of the Michael Kahn Endowed Chair at the University of Southern California’s School of Cinematic Arts.
Hollyn was lecturing students from Tokyo University of the Arts in Yokohama, Japan, when he died, according to a social media post by Elizabeth Daley, dean of the USC School of Cinematic Arts.

Guitar ensemble performance to showcase variety of styles
LINCOLN, Neb.— The University of Nebraska-Lincoln Glenn Korff School of Music Guitar Ensemble presents a program of music that showcases a variety of styles performed in different settings that include solo, duo, quartet, and quintet on Tuesday, April 2 at 8:45 p.m. in Westbrook Recital Hall.
