Movesian wins state woodwind young artist MTNA competition

Glenn Korff School of Music masters student Allison Movesian will compete as a Division Finalist in the MTNA (Music Teachers National Association) Competition after winning the state woodwind young artist competition. Movesian is in her second year of study under Richard H. Larson Distinguished Professor of Music (Flute) Dr. John Bailey.

“It was overall a wonderful experience,” Movesian said. “I had a lot of confidence in my collaborative pianist, Madeline Rogers, and was very excited to work with her again.

Anderson’s performance has been rescheduled

Glenn Korff School of Music’s Scott Anderson has rescheduled the date of his performance to December 2 at 7:30 p.m. in Kimball Recital Hall.

It was previously scheduled in September.

Nebraska Lectures to feature Simon’s ‘Nebraska Songbook’

Lincoln, Neb.--The Nebraska Lectures, the Chancellor’s Distinguished Speaker Series, presents “Nebraska Songbook” on Friday, Nov. 8 at 3:30 p.m. at Sheldon Museum of Art.

“Nebraska Songbook” is an original composition for soprano and piano by Glenn Korff School of Music Assistant Professor of Composition Greg Simon and will be performed by Jamie Reimer, Associate Professor of Voice, and Brenda Wristen, Professor of Piano and Piano Pedagogy. Simon will open the lecture with a discussion of the meaning and inspiration behind the piece.

Percussion Ensemble prepares for PASIC with Oct. 29 concert

Lincoln, Neb.--The University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s Percussion Ensemble has won the Percussive Arts Society’s International Percussion Ensemble Competition. They are one of three university percussion ensembles that will perform during the Percussive Arts Society International Convention (PASIC) Nov. 13-16 in Indianapolis, Indiana.

It’s the second win for the Percussion Ensemble, which won for the first time in 2016 and now again in 2019, in its first year of eligibility after winning previously.

UNL Opera premieres opera based on Sandoz novel on founding of Cozad

Lincoln, Neb.--The Glenn Korff School of Music is premiering a new opera “The Gambler’s Son” by composer Tyler Goodrich White and librettist Laura White. The opera is adapted from Mari Sandoz’s 1960 novel, “Son of the Gamblin’ Man,” which tells the story of the gambler and townsite promoter who founded Cozad, Nebraska, and of his family, particularly his young son, who became the world-famous artist and teacher known as Robert Henri.

Koch’s UNL bassoon studio hosts first recital of the fall

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln Glenn Korff School of Music bassoon studio of Dr. Nathan Koch holds its first recital of the 2019-2020 academic year, featuring a variety of student-faculty chamber music collaborations on Wednesday, October 30 at 7:30 p.m. in Westbrook Recital Hall.

Percussion Ensemble to perform PASIC concert in Kimball

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln Glenn Korff School of Music Percussion Ensemble was selected for a second time as winners of the Percussive Arts Society International Percussion Ensemble Competition. The group will perform an hour-long showcase concert at the Percussive Arts Society International Convention (PASIC) this November. Come see this award-winning group of percussionists in action as they present the first performance of their convention program right here in Lincoln on Tuesday, October 29 at 7:30 p.m. in Kimball Recital Hall!

University of Nebraska Brass Quintet goes ‘Back to Basics’

The University of Nebraska Brass Quintet has performed most of the great repertoire for the genre. For the past decade, the group has dedicated itself to showcasing original repertoire. Admittedly some of the repertoire is esoteric. Its concert on Monday, October 28 at 7:30 p.m. in Kimball Recital Hall is an attempt to get back to basics and play the great repertoire for quintet.

GKSOM choirs, Bellevue East High School combine for ‘Our Season’s Changing Light’

In a concert titled “OUR SEASON’S CHANGING LIGHT,” music is chosen to reflect change, progress, and unity as the University Singers, All-Collegiate Choir and Bellevue East High School perform at the Newman Center Church (320 North 16th Street) on Thursday, October 24 at 7:30 p.m.

A special guest high school choir from Bellevue East High School, under the direction of UNL alum, Dr. Marjorie Simons-Bester, will contribute to the center portion of the performance and join all choirs with a new version of the classic text “Let All the World in Every Corner Sing.”
