Jazz season begins with Oct. 9 concert

Lincoln, Neb.--The Glenn Korff School of Music begins the 2019-2020 jazz season with a new pairing of ensembles. 

The Jazz Orchestra and Jazz Singers (formerly known as the Vocal Jazz Ensemble), both under the direction of Lecturer David von Kampen, will perform Oct. 9 at 7:30 p.m. in Kimball Recital Hall. Tickets are $5 general and $3 students/seniors and are available at the door.

‘Shout’ kicks off Flyover’s new season of ‘Many Voices’

LINCOLN, Neb.— Flyover New Music’s opening night of the 2019-2020 concert season is SHOUT, a celebration of the rich variety of voices within the Glenn Korff School of Music’s composition department on Tuesday, October 1 at 7:30 p.m. in the Westbrook Recital Hall.

Anderson recital scheduled for September 25 postponed

LINCOLN, Neb.— Scott Anderson of the Glenn Korff School of Music has postponed his September 25 recital, which was scheduled to take place in the Kimball Recital Hall. A new date will be announced in the future.

Cornhusker Marching Band heading to Illinois to perform at Saturday’s game

The Cornhusker Marching Band’s away performance trip this season will be this weekend at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign on Saturday, September 21. All 300 members of the CMB along with staff will travel to Champaign, Illinois for the 7 p.m. kickoff with the Fighting Illini.

GKSOM’s Hall presents percussion recital on final Sunday in September

LINCOLN, Neb.— Dave Hall presents a percussion recital comprised almost entirely of electro-acoustic works for solo percussion commissioned by Hall within the last several years at 3 p.m. on Sunday, September 29 in Kimball Recital Hall. The performance also includes Steven Mackey’s seminal solo marimba masterpiece “See Ya Thursday”. Hall will be performing across a wide percussive spectrum including drum set, marimba, vibraphone, steel drums, and multi-percussion.

New faculty begin this fall

The Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts welcomes the following new faculty this fall:

Katie Anania is assistant professor of art history in the School of Art, Art History & Design. She comes to Nebraska from Georgia College, where she was assistant professor of art history. Prior to her work at Georgia College, Anania was a 2018 Wallace Fellow at Villa I Tatti, the Harvard University Center for Italian Renaissance Studies in Florence, Italy.

Anderson to perform ‘Degrees of Separation…’ in Kimball

LINCOLN, Neb.— University of Nebraska-Lincoln Glenn Korff School of Music Professor of Trombone Scott Anderson will perform a faculty recital titled, “Degrees of Separation…” on Wednesday, September 25 at 7:30 p.m. in Kimball Recital Hall. The performance is free and open to the public. The title of this recital comes from the question most heard by trombonists when it comes to the composers of trombone music. That question is “who is that?”

Lied Center presents 4th biennial ASCAP/Grow a Show and Broadway at the Lied

Lincoln, Neb.--“Broadway at the Lied” on Wednesday, Sept. 11 at 7:30 p.m. at the Lied Center for Performing Arts is a showcase of the best of Broadway, performed by some of Nebraska’s top talent, and joined onstage by professional Broadway composer Scott Frankel and lyricist Michael Korie.

The cast of the show will feature award-winning University of Nebraska–Lincoln alumni, students and Equity artists, accompanied by a professional music ensemble.
