Carson Center’s Smith part of Exhibit Columbus Symposium New Middles

Lincoln, Neb.--University of Nebraska–Lincoln Assistant Professor of Emerging Media Arts Ash E. Smith is part of the Exhibit Columbus Symposium New Middles, which kicks off Sept. 15 and runs through Oct. 27.

Nebraska Rep, The Black Rep kick off #realchange collaboration with performance, discussion of 'Fannie Lou Hamer, Speak On It'

Lincoln, Neb.--The Nebraska Repertory Theatre and the St. Louis Black Repertory Company launch their two-year #realchange partnership Friday, Oct. 2 at 6:00 p.m. with a virtual event “The Continuum: Civil Rights to Black Lives Matter.” To reserve a ticket, go to http://nebraskarep.org.

The event will feature a St. Louis Black Rep performance of Fannie Lou Hamer, Speak On It written by Cheryl L. West and A Conversation with Sonia Sanchez.

Carson School will light Temple Building in red Sept. 1 for national event

Lincoln, Neb.--On Tuesday Sept. 1, the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film Student Chapter of USITT (United States Institute for Theatre Technology) will join with Lincoln’s Lied Center for Performing Arts, Kimball Recital Hall, and other theatres nationwide for #WeMakeEvents #RedAlertRESTART.

College welcomes 6 new faculty

Lincoln, Neb.--The Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts welcomes the following new faculty this fall:

• Ben Evjen, Assistant Professor of Practice in Graphic Design
Evjen comes to Nebraska from Utah Valley University, where he was assistant professor and program coordinator in the Art & Design Department. He has also served as an adjunct instructor at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia.

36 students selected for new Carson Center cohort

Lincoln, Nebraska—Thirty-six students—26 high school students and 10 transfer students—have been selected to join the latest cohort of the University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s Johnny Carson Center for Emerging Media Arts.

This is the second cohort for the center, which opened last fall.

2 Carson Center faculty receive ORED seed funding

Lincoln, Neb.--Two Johnny Carson Center for Emerging Media Arts faculty were among three University of Nebraska–Lincoln faculty who have been selected for seed funding from the Office of Research and Economic Development's Arts and Humanities Research Enhancement Program.

The goal of the program is to foster excellence in research, scholarship and creative activity in the arts and humanities, and to increase recipients’ competitiveness for external funding or enhance the societal impact of their work.

Carson Center’s Open Studios event a virtual success

Lincoln, Neb.--Students from the Johnny Carson Center for Emerging Media Arts shared their work from the spring semester StoryLab and Visual Expression Studio classes in a virtual Open Studios event on Mozilla Hubs inside a 3D virtual model of the Carson Center on May 1.

Hixson-Lied Faculty, Staff awards announced

Lincoln, Neb.--The Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts announced the 2020 recipients of the Hixson-Lied Faculty and Staff awards. These awards are made possible by the Hixson-Lied Endowment.

The following awards were presented:

• The College Distinguished Teaching Award was presented to Hye-Won Hwang, assistant professor of practice in dance from the Glenn Korff School of Music. This award recognizes a professor who has demonstrated excellence in teaching and a selfless dedication to students.
