Submissions open for Black Public Media residency at Carson Center
Lincoln, Neb.--Black Public Media (BPM) and the Johnny Carson Center for Emerging Media Arts are continuing a collaboration for the second year on a new residency for Black filmmakers, creative technologists and artists who need access to emerging technology, studio time or work space.
The in-person residency was launched at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln during the summer of 2022.

AI+Creative Filmmaking Design Hackathon is April 15
Lincoln, Neb.--A one-day, intensive AI filmmaking hackathon will be held on Saturday, April 15, where creatives will offer up speculative visions of the future and emergent system designs to offer us clues and strategies of ways that we can shape an interspecies future.
The event is co-hosted by The Nebraska Technology and Governance Center, Cinema 16 and the Johnny Carson Center for Emerging Media Arts.

Weiss returning as 2023 Alumni Master for Hixson-Lied College
Lincoln, Neb.--Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film alumna Mari Weiss (M.F.A. 1988) is one of nine alumni named to the 2023 class of Alumni Masters by the Nebraska Alumni Association.
Weiss will be on campus March 23-24 for Masters Week and will be honored March 24 at the Nebraska Medallion Dinner.
Since 1964, more than 400 alumni have participated in the Alumni Masters. Selection of the Alumni Masters is competitive. Candidates are alumni who have shown great promise, success and leadership in their fields.

Emerging Media Arts senior earns Maxis Studios internship
Lincoln, Neb.--Alijah Mallula, a senior emerging media arts and English major at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, has earned a three-month internship from Maxis Studios, in Redwood City, California.
There were 619 applicants for the internship, and Mallula was the single candidate offered the internship. She will start May 22 and continue for 12 weeks.

Evans selected for national ASPIRE arts leadership cohort
Lincoln, Neb.--Brannon Evans, a senior theatre performance major in the Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film, has been chosen to represent Region V of the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival (KCACTF) in the national ASPIRE Arts Leadership Cohort.
“I am very grateful and excited to be selected for this amazing opportunity,” Evans said. “I hope to learn from leading professionals in the field on how to continue anti-racism and DEI in the work I do. I'm also excited to grow as a leader and become more versed in arts administration.”

Long’s film places in Top 5 of Louisiana Film Prize
Lincoln, Neb.--David Long, associate professor of theatre in the Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film, created his first short film, “Betty Lou Had a Son.” The film earned Top 5 honors in the 2022 Louisiana Film Prize competition and will have a screening in March at the Omaha Film Festival.

Theatrix to hold spring musical auditions Dec. 9-10
Lincoln, Neb.--Theatrix, the student-run theatre company in the Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film, is holding auditions for its spring musical theatre production of “Ordinary Days.”
Auditions will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 9 and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 10 in the Lab Theatre (3rd floor Temple Building).

Carson Open Studios event is Dec. 9
Lincoln, Neb.—Students in the University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s Johnny Carson Center for Emerging Media Arts and Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film will host an Open Studios event on Friday, Dec. 9. All of the events listed are free and open to the public.
The schedule includes:
• 5-7 p.m. Emerging Media Arts Open Studios at the Johnny Carson Center for Emerging Media Arts, 13th and Q sts. The event showcases work in progress by Bachelor of Fine Arts in emerging media arts students.
