Michelle WalenzDirector of Engagement, Carson Center for Emerging Media Arts
Michelle is the Director of Engagement for the Johnny Carson Center for Emerging Media Arts. She will be working on industry, community and stakeholder engagement with a focus on marketing and the creation of the Center’s mentorship and internship programs. Michelle joins us after a stellar career in Los Angeles, where she was most recently the Senior Vice President—Marketing, Creative and Branding at ABC Family. While there, she led the team responsible for the iconic launch campaigns of Pretty Little Liars The Fosters, Switched at Birth and The Secret Life of the American Teenager, where they shattered social media records for the most tweeted television episode in TV history. While at ABC Family, Michelle was deeply engaged with the highly acclaimed Disney mentorship program (internal to Disney), and was appointed by Anne Sweeney to be an executive mentor in the program for nine consecutive years. A broadcasting graduate of the University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s College of Journalism and Mass Communications, she returned to the university as an Alumni Master in 2012. In 2013, she was named one of the Most Powerful Women in Cable.
