Lincoln, Neb.--The University of Nebraska–Lincoln Wind Ensemble will perform Wednesday, Dec. 4 at 7:30 p.m. with a program that celebrates homecoming from a different perspective.

The concert will be in Westbrook Music Building Rm. 130. Seating is limited. Overflow will be in Rm. 119 with a simulcast on the big screen. The concert is free and open to the public.

Each piece on the program is colored by, or is a direct expression of, the composer’s heritage and, thereby, a reflection and consideration of their home.

“In some cases, this home is ancestral; in others, it is present. In many it is a layering of the two,” said Carolyn Barber, the Ron and Carol Cope Professor of Music, Director of Bands and Director of the Wind Ensemble.

The program features Australian composer Jodie Blackshaw’s “The Creation of Faith” (the 4th movement of her Symphony No. 1), two movements from Mexican composer Nubia Jaime-Donjuan’s “Little Mexican Suite” (“Ayacahuite” and “Sahuaro”), Diné composer Raven Chacon’s improvisatory “Hasta’aadah,” Chinese composer Li Chan’s setting of “Folksong from Midu,” American/Esan composer Shawn Okpebholo’s “Heritage” (a revised version of “This is Africa”), and Indian-American composer Reena Esmail’s “Chamak” (three movements each exploring a different raag).
