Guest artist High to perform in Westbrook

LINCOLN, Neb.— Dr. Eric High, assistant professor of music at St. Norbert College, will be performing as a guest artist in Trombone at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Glenn Korff School of Music on Wednesday, November 18 at 7:30 p.m. in the Westbrook Recital Hall. Prior to his appointment at St. Norbert, Eric taught public school in Gilbert, Ariz. for five years.

UNL Solo Competition winners announced

LINCOLN, Neb.— The University of Nebraska-Lincoln Graduate and Undergraduate solo competition took place this past weekend at the Glenn Korff School of Music. The vocal, keyboard, woodwind, string, and brass/percussion areas all select finalists and the final round is adjudicated by a panel of judges from prestigious universities around the country.

Patricia Kramer, voice, was named the Graduate winner with Adriana Ceia, cello, and Adam Schweitzer, timpani, both named honorable mention.

Moran Woodwind Quintet will perform wide range at recital

LINCOLN, Neb.— The Moran Woodwind Quintet’s upcoming faculty recital features a broad range of repertoire on Tuesday, November 17 at 7:30 p.m in the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Glenn Korff School of Music’s Westbrook Recital Hall. The performance is free and open to the public.

The program opens with a woodwind quintet standard, the Quintet in g minor of Franz Danzi, a contemporary of Beethoven and one of the fathers of the woodwind quintet.

Bell declared winner of MTNA Young Artist Competition

LINCOLN, Neb.— Hannah Bell, University of Nebraska-Lincoln Glenn Korff School of Music Junior Bachelor of Arts in Music/Clarinet, was declared the winner of the MTNA (Music Teachers National Association) Young Artist Competition (Woodwind) for the State of Nebraska. In January, she will advance to the Division Level of competition where she will compete with the winners of the various states in the Division Level for MTNA. Elizabeth Johnson, Master of Music (MM) in Clarinet, placed as the Alternate Winner for this MTNA competition.

GKSOM students have strong showing at NATS West Central Auditions

The 2015 National Association of the Teachers of Singing West Central NATS 2015 Student Auditions (which includes Privates Studios, Universities & Colleges in Nebraska, Kansas, Colorado and Wyoming) took place recently at the University of Nebraska–Kearney. Current University of Nebraska–Lincoln voice students won 38 percent of the collegiate prizes. UNL Vocal Coach and Staff Accompanist Michael Cotton was named Collaborative Pianist of the Year.

UNL Opera will boldly perform Mozart’s Don Giovanni

LINCOLN, Neb.— UNL Opera, under the stage direction of William Shomos, will perform Mozart’s masterpiece, Don Giovanni, one of the world’s most-performed operas, based on the legends of Don Juan, on Friday, November 13 at 7:30 p.m. and again on Sunday, November 15 at 3 p.m. in Kimball Recital Hall.

Giovanni, the young, arrogant, promiscuous nobleman, abuses and outrages nobility and peasantry alike, until he encounters something he cannot kill, seduce or outwit.

New York’s John Ellis to perform saxophone recital in Westbrook

LINCOLN, Neb.— John Ellis is widely recognized as one of New York’s premiere tenor saxophone voices and he will be having a performance at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Glenn Korff School of Music on November 16 at 7:30 p.m. in the Westbrook Recital Hall. The event is free and open to the public.

A sideman to artists as diverse as bass icon John Patitucci, organ legend Dr. Lonnie Smith, and MacArthur Fellow Miguel Zenon, John has performed extensively around the world for the last 20 years.

Alumnus Adam Fieldson returns to UNL for Lied performance Nov. 3

Lincoln, Neb.--During his time at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln's Glenn Korff School of Music, alumnus Adam Fieldson performed the title role of “Candide,” Nerone in “L’incoronazione di Poppea,” Lysander in “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” and Romeo in “Roméo et Juliette.” On Nov. 3, the tenor returns to the UNL campus and the Lied Center for Performing Arts to perform his latest role with one of the finest touring choral groups in the nation, Cantus.

Becker, Clinton present works by two American Composers

LINCOLN, Neb.— Cellist Karen Becker and pianist Mark Clinton will present works by two American composers on Thursday, November 12 at 7:30 p.m. in the Glenn Korff School of Music’s Westbrook Recital Hall at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

Becker will perform John Corigliano’s Fancy On A Bach Air for cello solo, followed by Becker and Clinton playing the Sonata for Cello and Piano by Robert Muczynski. The program will conclude with the Sonata in F Major, Op. 99 of Johannes Brahms.

UNL Faculty Jazz Ensemble takes Westbrook stage November 9

LINCOLN, Neb.— The University of Nebraska-Lincoln Faculty Jazz Ensemble will present a program of contemporary jazz on Monday, November 9 at 7:30 p.m. in the Glenn Korff School of Music’s Westbrook Recital Hall. Included in the program will be new original works by group members Tom Larson and Darryl White, as well compositions by saxophonists Wayne Shorter, Jerry Bergonzi and Andrew Janak.
