Alumni Board awards announced

Lincoln, Neb.--The Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts Alumni Board has selected the recipients of its annual alumni awards. The awards will be presented on Friday, April 26 at the college’s annual Honors Day celebration. The dinner is by invitation only.

Nebraska builds partnerships in India, Nepal for Global Arts Academy

Souto invited to participate in Venice Biennale

Lincoln, Neb.--Francisco Souto, Cather Professor of Art and Director of the School of Art, Art History & Design, has been invited to participate in an exhibition at the 2024 Venice Biennale.

The Venice Biennale is an international cultural exhibition hosted in Venice, Italy, by the Biennale Foundation and includes art and architecture exhibitions, as well as music, dance and film festivals.

Ceramist Candice Methe is next Hixson-Lied Visiting Artist

Lincoln, Neb.—Candice Methe, a full-time studio artist and educator living and working in western North Carolina, will present the next Hixson-Lied Visiting Artist & Scholar lecture on Wednesday, March 6 at 5:30 p.m. in Richards Hall Rm. 15. The lecture is free and open to the public.

The School of Art, Art History & Design’s Hixson-Lied Visiting Artist & Scholar Lecture Series brings notable artists, scholars and designers to Nebraska each semester to enhance the education of students.

EMA students place in 48-hour entrepreneurship challenge

Lincoln, Neb.--Emerging Media Arts students Hannah Gish, Alexah Fort and Micah Fullinfaw participated in the Nebraska Center for Entrepreneurship’s 48-Hour Challenge Feb. 15-17 and earned second and third place in the competition with their respective teams.

Wind Ensemble presents ‘Sea Songs’ March 2

Lincoln, Neb.—The University of Nebraska–Lincoln Wind Ensemble invites audiences for a journey above and below the waves in a program titled “Sea Songs” on Saturday, March 2 at 3:30 p.m. in Westbrook Music Building Rm. 130.

Seating is limited. Overflow will be in Rm. 119 with a simulcast on the big screen. 

The program begins with “Sea Songs” by Thomas Knox.

Alumnus Belk has first solo exhibition in New York City

Lincoln, Neb.--School of Art, Art History & Design alumnus Matt Belk (B.F.A. 2011) has his first solo exhibition in New York City. “Sunsets” is on display through Feb. 24 at The Hole in Tribeca. 

Belk’s landscape paintings portray the natural world and are influenced by the sport of hunting. Using airbrush, tape and an X-acto knife, he layers plants, animals and other unexpected guests in his paintings.

Potter, Ruiz, Wychulis featured in faculty recital Feb. 12

Lincoln, Neb.—Glenn Korff School of Music faculty members Clark Potter, viola; Sergio Ruiz, piano; and Katie Wychulis, harp, will present a faculty recital on Monday, Feb. 12 at 7:30 p.m. in Westbrook Music Building Rm. 119.

37th Annual Undergraduate Juried Exhibition opens Feb. 2

Lincoln, Neb.--The University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s Eisentrager-Howard Gallery will host the 37th Annual Undergraduate Juried Exhibition. The exhibition opens with a First Friday reception on Friday, Feb. 2 from 5-7 p.m. and continues through March 1.

A closing reception will be held Friday, March 1 from 5-7 p.m. in the gallery with awards presented at 6 p.m. More than 10 awards will be announced, including the Freshman Award, Sophomore Award and the Faulkner Memorial Awards.
