Stark wins NATS national musical theatre competition
Lincoln, Neb.--Maddy Stark, a senior voice major and musical theatre minor in the Glenn Korff School of Music from Omaha, Nebraska, won the National Association of Teachers of Singing’s upper level (college junior and senior treble voices) musical theatre category in the National Student Auditions.
Beginning among a record-setting 854 entries in this year’s national competition, Stark represented the West Central region of NATS as she advanced through six levels of competition to be named the winner. She was awarded a cash prize of $1,600.

Lied Center Piano Academy begins July 11
Lincoln, Neb.--The Lied Center for Performing Arts, Lied Center Piano Circle and Glenn Korff School of Music will host the fourth annual Lied Center Piano Academy July 11-15.
The academy is designed for students entering grades 9 through their first year of college. The artistic director is Paul Barnes, the Marguerite Scribante Professor of Piano in the Glenn Korff School of Music.

Alumni award winners return to campus
Lincoln, Neb.--Tim Andersen (B.M.E. 1982) and Abby Miller (B.A. 2002) returned to campus in April as part of the Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts Honors Day celebration.
Andersen received the Alumni Achievement Award in Music. He has combined a successful teaching and performing career in the Dallas/Fort Worth area over the past 38 years.

UNL Choirs tour France
Lincoln, Neb.--The University Singers and Chamber Singers in the Glenn Korff School of Music are on a choral trip to France May 14-24.
They are performing at extraordinary concert venues including the Gothic Beauvais Cathedral, Rouen Gothic Cathedral, the American Cemetery at Normandy, Eglise Notre Dame l’Assomption, St. Michel, St. Vincent Cathedral, Le Mans Cathedral, Chartres Cathedral, and more. Their trip also includes a visit to Monet’s Gardens at Giverny.

Rogers returns to Nebraska with Army's Old Fife and Drum Corps
Lincoln, Neb.--Staff Sergeant Katie Rice Rogers (M.M. 2017) is a fife instrumentalist with the Army's Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps stationed at Ft. Myer in Arlington, Virginia. A small team from her unit will be performing in Omaha May 26-28 as part of the patriotic events for Memorial Day weekend.

Mattingly named interim director of Korff School
Lincoln, Neb.--Alan Mattingly, professor of horn and assistant director, has been named the interim director of the Glenn Korff School of Music. Mattingly’s appointment begins May 23 and continues until a new director is appointed.

Lincoln, Neb.--Sarah Brady, a senior music and microbiology major at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, has earned a Fulbright award to teach English in Poland.

Undergraduate research award presented
Lincoln, Neb.—Glenn Korff School of Music senior Zachary Cheek received an award from the Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts, Office of Research and Economic Development and Office of Undergraduate Research in conjunction with the University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s Student Research Days in April.
Cheek won $250 for his presentation titled “The Impact of Afghan Opium Cultivation on the American Opioid Epidemic.”
