UNL Symphony perform May 10

Lincoln, Neb.—The University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s Symphony Orchestra will perform their season finale “Beethoven’s ‘Eroica’” on Friday, May 10 at 7:30 p.m. at St. Paul United Methodist Church. The concert is free and open to the public.

The Symphony Orchestra is under the direction of Glenn Korff School of Music Professor of Composition and Conducting and Director of Orchestras Tyler White. Ramón Araújo, Kate Mathews and Manuel Monge-Mata are the graduate associate conductors.

University Singers present ‘Carmina Burana’

Lincoln, Neb.--University Singers, the historic, flagship choir of the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, will perform Carl Orff’s masterpiece, “Carmina Burana” on Tuesday, April 30 at 7:30 p.m. at First Plymouth Congregational Church.

The concert is free and open to the public. The total musical work runs about one hour.

Registration is open for Lied Piano Academy

Lincoln, Neb.--The Lied Center for Performing Arts and the Glenn Korff School of Music will host the annual Lied Center Piano Academy July 15-19, led by Marguerite Scribante Professor of Piano Paul Barnes, who serves as artistic director.

The academy is designed for students entering grades 9 through their first year of college in fall 2024 and is tailored toward serious intermediate and advanced students interested in gaining professional-level instruction and guidance to raise their performance level and understanding of piano music.

Jazz Orchestra performs April 30 at Storm Cellar

Lincoln, Neb.--The Glenn Korff School of Music’s Jazz Orchestra will perform a program titled “All Together” on Tuesday, April 30 at 7 p.m. at Storm Cellar, 3233 S 13th St. in Lincoln. The performance is free and open to the public.

The Jazz Orchestra, which is under the direction of Associate Professor of Composition Greg Simon, will be performing three world premieres at the performance, including one commission.

Lincoln, Neb.—The University of Nebraska–Lincoln Wind Ensemble will perform a program titled “Sharks & Jets” on Saturday, May 4 at 3:30 p.m. in Westbrook Music Building Rm. 130.

Admission is free and open to the public. Seating is limited. Overflow will be in Rm. 119 with a simulcast on the big screen.

Barnes to perform inside Richard Serra sculpture for Lincoln Calling

Lincoln, Neb.--Paul Barnes, the Marguerite Scribante Professor of Piano in the Glenn Korff School of Music, will be performing a special program of composer Philip Glass’s works inside the sculpture of Richard Serra titled “Greenpoint” on the UNL city campus on Wednesday, May 1 at noon. The performance is free and open to the public.

String Project gives young musicians a head start

Lincoln, Neb.--The University of Nebraska–Lincoln and Lincoln Public Schools are tuning up young new musicians through the UNL/LPS String Project.

The project provides introductory music education to elementary school students in Lincoln. The group will hold its spring performance April 17. Karen Becker, professor of cello and the program’s director, said the program helps its undergraduate instructors learn to teach as part of a team while teaching kids about working as an ensemble.
