Haar presents recital tribute to his late mother

Lincoln, Neb.--Glenn Korff School of Music Associate Professor of Saxophone Ora Paul Haar presents “Too Late, Too Soon,” a faculty recital in tribute to his late mother on Monday, March 27.

1 faculty, 1 alum earn NAC Individual Artist Fellowships

Lincoln, Neb.--One faculty member and one alumnus from the Glenn Korff School of Music were among the nine winners of 2023 Individual Artist Fellowships from the Nebraska Arts Council.

Greg Simon, Associate Professor of Composition and Jazz Studies, received a $2,500 IAF grant. Gayle Rocz (B.A. 2020) received a $2,000 IAF grant.

Garrett publishes choral music anthology by Black composers

Lincoln, Neb.--Glenn Korff School of Music Assistant Professor of Music in Choral Activities Marques L.A. Garrett compiled and edited “The Oxford Book of Choral Music by Black Composers,” published in February by Oxford University Press (OUP).  The book aims to address an historical lack of representation of Black musicians and composers in the choral canon.

UNL Opera on tour in March with ‘La Traviata’

Lincoln, Neb.--The Glenn Korff School of Music’s opera program will be going on tour in Nebraska with three performances of Verdi’s “La Traviata” in March in Ord, Scottsbluff and Lincoln.

The performances will be held:
• Sunday, March 5 at 3:00 p.m. at The Golden Husk Theatre, Ord, Nebraska. For ticket information, visit https://www.goldenhuskarts.org
• Wednesday, March 22 at 7:30 p.m. at North Star High School Auditorium, Lincoln, Nebraska (free and open to the public).

UNL dance program to host regional dance conference

Lincoln, Neb.--The Glenn Korff School of Music’s dance program will be hosting the 2023 American College Dance Association (ACDA) North-Central Conference March 12-15 in Lincoln.

More than 330 people from 22 universities are currently registered to attend the conference, which is themed “Meeting in the Middle.” The region includes Nebraska, Iowa, Wisconsin, Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota. Participants from additional states may attend as well.
