Korff School junior earns Gilman International Scholarship
Lincoln, Neb.--Victoria Handford, a junior music and German major from Kansas City, Missouri, is one of 13 University of Nebraska–Lincoln undergraduate students to earn a Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship. The awards allow the students to study abroad during the spring 2018 semester.
“I was super excited,” Handford said about learning she had received the scholarship while on her way home for the Thanksgiving break.

UNL Opera once again performs Amahl for LPS fifth graders
Fifteen years ago, the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Glenn Korff School of Music began a holiday tradition – Amahl and the Night Visitors. The tradition continues this week when UNL Opera presents the opera in the studio theatre of the Temple Building on campus.
“It is a great introduction to opera: The show runs at under an hour; it is in understandable English; the story is easy to grasp; the music is tuneful and accessible,” said Director of UNL Opera William Shomos.

Welcome All Wonders coming up on Sunday, December 3
LINCOLN, Neb.— Five of the traditional choirs from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Glenn Korff School of Music will combine in the Newman Center at the corner of 16th and Q streets for a holiday concert on Sunday, December 3. There will be two performances, one at 3 p.m. and one at 7:30 p.m.

Big Red Singers, Vocal Jazz Ensemble to both perform on December 5
LINCOLN, Neb.— The University of Nebraska-Lincoln Glenn Korff School of Music Big Red Singers and the Vocal Jazz Ensemble will perform in a 7:30 p.m., December 5 concert in Kimball Recital Hall.

UNL Symphonic Band presents ”Cult of Personality”
LINCOLN, Neb.— The University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s Symphonic Band, featuring guest artist Diane Barger on clarinet, will perform at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, December 7 in Kimball Recital Hall.

’Picture Studies’ will be performed by UNL Wind Ensemble
LINCOLN, Neb.— In December to set the stage for an exploration of the art of painting, the University of Nebraska Lincoln Glenn Korff School of Music’s Wind Ensemble will begin with Matthew Tommasini’s Torn Canvases inspired by the abstract expressionist painting style of Jackson Pollack as part of its performance on December 6 at 7:30 p.m. in Kimball Recital Hall. Turning inward, the program continues with Joseph Turrin’s intimate Lullaby for Noah before it moves outward once again to Leslie Bassett’s striking Colors and Contours.

Chamber Singers to take part in Sheldon Museum of Art First Friday
LINCOLN, Neb.— The University of Nebraska-Lincoln Chamber Singers will be doing pop-up performances as part of the Sheldon Museum of Art First Friday on December 1. Admission is free for First Friday, which takes place from 5-7 p.m.
The performances by the Chamber Singers will take place around 5:30 and 6:15 p.m. Enjoy festive snacks and hot cider. Be sure to explore the current exhibitions too. The event is cohosted by Sheldon and the Glenn Korff School of Music.
