Suzanne Wise is an art historian. After over 20 years, Suzanne recently retired from her role as executive director at the Nebraska Arts Council; a state agency that promotes, cultivates and sustains the arts for the people of Nebraska. Suzanne’s career at the NAC began in 1988. She has served as the public art program administrator, and managed special initiatives and all grant programs except arts education for the agency. She has served on numerous boards in both Nebraska and nationally including Mid-America Arts Alliance, Kansas City; and the National Assembly of State Arts Agencies, Washington, D.C. She holds an M.A. in art history from the University of Kansas with a specialization in American painting and photography. She held curatorial positions at Sheldon Art Museum, Joslyn Art Museum and Northwestern University’s Block Gallery and has taught at Creighton University and in the University of Nebraska system. ELIGIBILITY
You are eligible if you meet all of the following criteria:
- You are an undergraduate who has been enrolled in a studio art or graphic design class in the School of Art, Art History & Design or enrolled in a major in the Center of Emerging Media Arts at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln within the past 12 months.
- You have not received an undergraduate degree in art from any institution.
- If you are graduating this semester and will no longer be a student while the artwork is on display (next semester), you many submit artwork because you are STILL a student at the time of submission.
ARTWORK ELIGIBILITY
Eligible students may submit up to 3 works of art.
- Three works of art means separate titles, aka, 3 separate works of art. Diptychs and triptychs are acceptable as separate works of art.
- A diptych is 2 objects that have to be shown together to complete a thought, concept or image; they fall under
1 title = 1 distinct work of art. - Triptych is 3 objects that have to be shown together to complete a thought, concept or image; they fall under
1 = 1 distinct work of art. - A series has 1 title and is comprised of an unlimited amount of works with their own individual titles. This is NOT 1 distinct work of art, but several. Pick some of them, and allude to them being in the same series in the title.
- A diptych is 2 objects that have to be shown together to complete a thought, concept or image; they fall under
This is one acceptable example of how one might to submit a selection from a series that successfully fills the limit of 3 works of art. Let’s say you have a photo series titled The Goat’s Revenge. In that series you have 12 titled works. You want to show 3 distinct works of art from that series. Here they are:
- A diptych (a pair, aka 2 photos) titled Goat 1 from the series The Goat’s Revenge = 1 distinct work of art
- A triptych titled Mo, Curly, and Larry from the series The Goat’s Revenge
(a trio, aka 3 photos) = 1 distinct work of art - A single image titled Milk and Honey from the series The Goat’s Revenge = 1 distinct work of art
- If multiple works of yours are chosen for the exhibition, there is no guarantee that they will be shown together as one grouping, even if it is all from the same series. (This is because after the works are juried into the show, the gallery director will spot the work in a way that looks the most cohesive overall.) If you submit a triptych, all 3 of those objects WILL be shown together because it is 1 distinct work of art, under the same title.
- Acceptable media includes: ceramics, drawing, graphic design, painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture, digital media (including video.)
- No master copies or collaborative / group works accepted.
- Your work was created at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln within the past 12 months.
- We are looking for works of art and design that showcase our students creativity and originality as well as their technical ability.
All submission information must be uploaded directly to the form below. Any information SENT OUTSIDE OF THIS FORM WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED.
