Kyle Murphy
Kyle Murphy is the Vice President, People & Corporate Communications at Hudl, a sports video technology company. Murphy's teams find and recruit top talent, get them trained, and give them tools and systems to work together effectively across the globe. Murphy's career at Hudl began as one of the first interns and among the first ten employees. He was hired as a quality analyst but shifted to writing front-end user-interface code, then later became a design leader and eventually a product director helping coaches and athletes win with video. Murphy founded the professional meetup group, Nebraska UX, which now boasts more than 600 members.
As an out-of-state recruit to Nebraska, Murphy graduated from the Raikes School at UNL with a degree in Computer Engineering, where he learned the importance of cross-training and interdisciplinary collaboration. He was exposed to the enormous benefits of a cross-disciplinary education at the Jeffrey S. Raikes School of Computer Science and Business Management (Cohort 2004). While at the Raikes School, Murphy met the founders of Hudl (David Graff, John Wirtz and Brian Kaiser) and become the company’s first intern.
As of 2018, the products Murphy and his team designed are now in use by more than 160,000 teams worldwide across 30 sports. Top teams include all 20 English Premier League clubs and 29 of 30 NBA basketball clubs.
You’ll find Murphy presenting and speaking in student lecture halls and at regional tech/entrepreneurship events. Serving as a member of the Advisory Council for the Johnny Carson Center for Emerging Media Arts, Murphy helps students connect a passion for new mediums like VR/AR with industry needs. His consistent message is "Everyone is a Designer, Whether You Like it or Not".
