Christopher Irvin teaches in the School of Art, Art History & Design and the Digital Arts Initiative within the Johnny Carson Center for Emerging Media Arts in the Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film. He brings a diverse blend of academic and professional expertise to his role. He earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Michigan State University and a Master of Fine Arts from the Art Institute of Boston.
Before joining the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, he worked as a graphic designer, educator and art director on experiential art campaigns. His career also includes significant work in UX & UI development, app development, and 3D computer graphics, all of which inform his unique approach to art production, teaching, and creative activities.
His interdisciplinary art practice explores conceptual art, interactive installations, and the evolving relationship between art and emerging technologies. Central to his work is an investigation into how technology enables new methods of art production and fosters dialogue between artists and technological mediums. His current projects span digital platforms, including the internet, creative coding, and artificial intelligence, alongside physical media such as 3D printing and commercial production techniques.
Christopher’s art, films, and experiential projects have been exhibited in galleries and festivals across the United States, earning recognition from both the art community and the broader public. His accolades include six Gold and Silver American Advertising Awards—among them Best of Show and Best of Category—as well as official selections at the Milwaukee International Film Festival and J.O.M.A.S. (Journal of Motion and Sound). He is also a recipient of the Global Innovation Fellowship from Michigan State University.
