Sam Segrist

Academic Advisor

Sam is part of our Student Success team, serving as Academic Advisor for students in the School of Art, Art History & Design. As Academic Advisor, he will advise current and incoming undergraduate students by helping them understand academic standards, degree requirements and relevant policies, and professional preparation. He also works collaboratively with faculty, staff and unit leaders to help students successfully move through the curriculum. Prior to coming to the Hixson-Lied College, he spent 10 years working directly with high school students, including teaching and advising college-bound, dual-enrollment students in Lincoln Public Schools. During his time with LPS, Sam received recognition for his contributions in the classroom and as debate coach.

In addition to his desire to help students co-create successful pathways in their chosen field, Sam’s personal passion for the creative arts drew him to working in in the Hixson-Lied College. His experience providing academic and social support for low-income and underrepresented minority students are assets in this role. Sam earned an M.A. in English with an emphasis in creative writing from Creighton University and a B.A. in English and teaching certification from Nebraska Wesleyan University.
