All adults wishing to take piano lessons, or further their piano playing skills, can participate in the 11-week UNL Community Piano Experience starting on Sept. 15 and 16 in the fall semester.

The once-a-week program offers beginning and intermediate piano classes to adults in the community as a way of providing recreational piano lessons in a relaxed atmosphere.

Brenda Wristen, an associate professor of music at UNL, started the piano experience in 2002. She also directs the piano pedagogy and keyboard skills programs at the university.

“It will be fun, and the students will learn more about music while improving their piano skills,” Wristen said.

No prior piano experience is needed for the beginner class, while those with a basic knowledge of keyboard skills and note reading can join the intermediate class.

The courses run for 11 weeks in both the fall and spring semesters. Classes meet weekly for a one and a half hour lesson on the UNL campus.

The total cost for the class per semester is $175, which includes 11 weeks of classes and the textbook.
