Faculty Jazz Ensemble performance coming in early November

LINCOLN, Neb.— At 7:30 p.m. on Monday, November 7 in the Westbrook Recital Hall, the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Faculty Jazz Ensemble will present their fall recital. The performance is free and open to the public.

Featured works include music by Nebraska native and jazz legend Victor Lewis, who will receive an Honorary Doctorate from Nebraska in December, saxophonist Jerry Bergonzi, who will be a guest clinician at the Glenn Korff School of Music in February, new arrangements by guitarist Peter Bouffard, and new compositions by pianist Tom Larson.

The group will also introduce its newest member, trumpeter Greg Simon, who is Assistant Professor of Composition at the school. Other members of the group are Paul Haar, saxophone, Hans Sturm, bass, Darryl White, trumpet, and Dave Hall, drums. The concert is free and open to the public.

Comprised of the some of the nation’s finest performers and educators, the Faculty Jazz Ensemble drew national attention in 2010 with their appearance on the NET Television and Glenn Korff School of Music program Jazz Cabaret, which has been viewed by millions. The program captured the versatility and creativity audiences have come to expect from the group. From unique arrangements of jazz and popular standards to original works, the Faculty Jazz Ensemble present a varied and exciting program.
