IGNITE featuring London: Story Abroad Film Festival + Q&A

For two and half full weeks over summer, eleven Emerging Media Arts students, Professor Ash Smith and Director Megan Elliott traveled to London for London: Story Abroad Future Fictions – scouring the city for transmissions, listening, writing, telling stories, building worlds. They visited artists in their studios, did workshops at University of the Arts London: Central Saint Martins, and in 72 hours made films, guerilla style, with actors from the Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film.
Hear from award-winning Visual Effects Supervisor Trent Claus, and then we’ll visit his exhibition Building a Narrative: Production Art and Pop Culture at the Eisentrager Howard Gallery.
Trent Claus is an award-winning Visual Effects Supervisor with Lola. He has worked on over 120 feature films, including 19 Academy Award nominees for Best Visual Effects (4 winners), 10 nominees for Best Picture (1 winner), and with a cumulative worldwide box-office of over 45 billion dollars.

Francesca is an award winning game designer and educator whose work encompasses digital, tabletop, and alternative controller style projects. She holds an MFA in Game Design from New York University. Francesca has a plethora of experience, including working as the President of indie studio Contigo Games, a Game Designer at Fullbright, and Head of Curriculum at Code Coven. She loves plants, caffeinated tea, and her dog, Olive.
Jesse Colin Jackson is a Canadian artist and designer based in Southern California. He explores the architectures we construct—from buildings to landscapes to virtual worlds—through objects and images made with digital visualization and fabrication technologies. His interactive Marching Cubes performances and installations (2016—present) have been featured in Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, Mexico City, Stockholm, Tehran, and across America.

IGNITE featuring writer and filmmaker Michael Svoboda
Join us for this week’s IGNITE Colloquium as we hear from Michael Svoboda. Svoboda is a television and film writer, filmmaker, teacher, and mentor. A Nebraska native, Svoboda now resides in LA.
Svoboda’s professional credits include Too Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar (film), Confession (short), Reply (short), Club de Cuervos (series), The Walking Dead (series), and Dexter (series), to name a few.
