Carson Center Advisory Council member Su receives his third Emmy Award

Lincoln, Neb.--Bernie Su, an interactive creator and showrunner and a member of the Johnny Carson Center for Emerging Media Arts’ Advisory Council, earned his third Emmy Award this fall in Outstanding Innovation in Interactive Media for Artificial.

Su is the co-creator and showrunner of the Peabody award-winning Artificial, the first live audience-interactive science fiction series to debut on Twitch. This series is a fully scripted serialized live narrative that lets the audience interact with the character while shifting the story and plot elements.

Carson Center Advisory Council member Wallworth receives Crystal Award

Lincoln, Neb.--Lynette Wallworth, an internationally acclaimed artist and director and a founding member of the Johnny Carson Center for Emerging Media Arts’ Advisory Council, is one of four artists to receive the 26th annual Crystal Awards at the World Economic Forum annual meeting in Davos-Klosters, Switzerland, in January 2020.

She joins artist Theaster Gates, choreographer Jin Xing and actor Deepika Padukone in receiving the award.

Carson School Open House Studio event is Dec. 13

Lincoln, Neb.--Experience an evening of exploration and experimentation as students from the Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film and Johnny Carson Center for Emerging Media Arts share their works-in-progress from their first semester at the Open-House Studios event on Friday, Dec. 13 from 5-8 p.m. in the Johnny Carson Center for Emerging Media Arts, 1300 Q St.

The event is free and open to the public. Registration is requested at https://go.unl.edu/xyjs.

Hixson-Lied College seeks applications for Nebraska Young Artist Awards

Lincoln, Neb.—The Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts is seeking applications for the 23rd annual Nebraska Young Artist Awards.

The Nebraska Young Artist Awards annually recognize 11th grade students from Nebraska who are gifted and talented in the areas of visual art, dance, music, theatre, and emerging media arts. These students exemplify the pinnacles of creativity in one of the fine and performing arts.

Carson Center dedication events begin Nov. 15

Lincoln, Neb.--Experts say the U.S. economy is being rapidly reshaped by emerging media technologies, with entire industries being “vaporized” and turned into software. This new economy is fundamentally changing the way companies go to market, influence their customers and engage their audiences. 

These changes demand a workforce that is both technologically adept and imaginative.

Carson Center’s Fleming has work selected for Cedars-Sinai permanent collection

Lincoln, Neb.—Jesse Fleming, assistant professor of emerging media arts in the Johnny Carson Center for Emerging Media Arts at Nebraska, had his video work, titled “Jane the Baptist,” acquired by the permanent collection of Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.

Filmmakers Jeffery, Petersen present next IGNITE lecture Sept. 20

Lincoln, Neb.--Independent filmmakers Alexander Jeffery and Paul Petersen will present at the next IGNITE colloquium on Friday, Sept. 20 at 12:30 p.m. in the Johnny Carson Center for Emerging Media Arts Rm. 101. The event is free and open to the public.

IGNITE is a weekly colloquium for all Carson Center students, which will involve guest lectures, workshops and seminars around creative and professional development. The Center is located at 1300 Q St.

New faculty begin this fall

The Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts welcomes the following new faculty this fall:

Katie Anania is assistant professor of art history in the School of Art, Art History & Design. She comes to Nebraska from Georgia College, where she was assistant professor of art history. Prior to her work at Georgia College, Anania was a 2018 Wallace Fellow at Villa I Tatti, the Harvard University Center for Italian Renaissance Studies in Florence, Italy.

IGNITE to feature Cunningham, Donahue on Sept. 13

Lincoln, Neb.--Award-winning, New York-based artist and producer Kevin Cunningham and director and producer Tom Donahue will be presenting at the next IGNITE colloquium at the Johnny Carson Center for Emerging Media Arts.

Cunningham and Donhue will each present during the event from 12:30-1:50 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 13 in the Johnny Carson Center for Emerging Media Arts Rm. 101. The Carson Center is located at 1300 Q St. The event is free and open to the public.
