Film editor, UNL alum Krings presents Q&A at Ross

Lincoln, Neb.--Joseph Krings, a film editor and a 1998 graduate of the College of Journalism and Mass Communications, will be on campus in September to participate in the Norman A. Geske Cinema Showcase at the Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center and visit classes in the Johnny Carson Center for Emerging Media Arts.

Elliott is featured speaker at premiere IGNITE colloquium

Megan Elliott, the founding director of the Johnny Carson Center for Emerging Media Arts, will be the featured speaker at the premier IGNITE colloquium on Friday, Aug. 30 from 12:30-1:50 p.m. in CEMA 101. The event is free and open to the public.

IGNITE is a weekly colloquium for all Johnny Carson Center for Emerging Media Arts students, which will involve guest lectures, workshops and seminars around creative development and professional development. The colloquiums are open to the entire university community, as well as the public.

Lincoln, Neb.--The University of Nebraska–Lincoln will welcome the “wizards and pirates and magicians of the world” when it opens the doors on its new Johnny Carson Center for Emerging Media Arts on Aug. 26.

In Memoriam: Norm Hollyn

Lincoln, Neb.--Norman Hollyn, a member of the Advisory Council for the Johnny Carson Center for Emerging Media Arts, died March 17. He was 66. Hollyn was a professor of cinematic arts and the inaugural holder of the Michael Kahn Endowed Chair at the University of Southern California’s School of Cinematic Arts.

Hollyn was lecturing students from Tokyo University of the Arts in Yokohama, Japan, when he died, according to a social media post by Elizabeth Daley, dean of the USC School of Cinematic Arts.

Cinema, technology visionary Ted Schilowitz presents Q&A at Carson School Dec. 3

Lincoln, Neb.—Ted Schilowitz, the first-ever Futurist-in-Residence for Paramount Pictures, will participate in a Q&A on the future of emerging technologies and cinema on Monday, Dec. 3 from 12:30-1:30 p.m. in Rm. 213 of the Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center. The Q&A is free and open to the university community. Faculty, staff and students are invited to bring their lunch and participate in the session.

Applications now open for Bachelor of Fine Arts in Emerging Media Arts, faculty positions

Lincoln, Neb.--Applications are now open for the new Bachelor of Fine Arts in Emerging Media Arts at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s new Johnny Carson Center for Emerging Media Arts, which opens Fall 2019. New faculty positions are also open for applications.

“We are searching for future creative leaders,” said Megan Elliott, founding director of the Johnny Carson Center for Emerging Media Arts. “The new Bachelor of Fine Arts in Emerging Media Arts has been intentionally designed to robot-proof students for a future of life-long learning and relentless change.”

Two cutting-edge artists to present keynote lectures at 2018 Mid-America College Art Association Conference

Lincoln, Neb.--The University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s School of Art, Art History & Design is hosting the 2018 Mid-America College Art Association Conference Oct. 4-5.

The conference theme is “Techne Expanding: Tensions, Terrains and Tools,” and will explore wide-ranging interpretations of technology and its use and impact on the teaching, making and performing of art, as well as the broader human experience.

Construction begins on Carson Center for Emerging Media Arts

Lincoln, Neb.--After nearly two years of foundational work in design, pedagogy and planning, the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s Johnny Carson Center for Emerging Media Arts is now rolling toward its fall 2019 opening.

Elliott excited for 'brilliant opportunity' to mentor, learn, network in Berlin

Lincoln, Neb.--Megan Elliott, founding director of the Johnny Carson Center for Emerging Media Arts at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, is in Berlin serving as a mentor at Berlinale Talents. The event is an annual summit and networking event tied to the Berlin International Film Festival.

The summit includes 250 audio-visual creatives participating from Feb. 17-20. The film festival is Feb. 15-25.
