Professor Dana Fritz works under the broad umbrella of landscape photography. Through books, prints, and exhibitions she explores how we shape and represent the land, engaging ideas about climate change, environmental history, and ecology in a place-based practice. She is a Center for Great Plains Studies Fellow and serves on university-wide interdisciplinary initiatives to support environmental sustainability and climate resilience. Drawing on her broad studio art background, she teaches courses in analog and digital photography, a seminar course on the intersections of environment, landscape, and photography, the culminating Capstone Art Experience for art majors, and works with graduate students from all studio areas. A longtime member of the national Society for Photographic Education, she serves as a regular portfolio reviewer, career mentor, and occasional conference planner and host. Fritz frequently delivers invited formal lectures and informal gallery talks about her work at conferences, universities, and art venues in the U.S. and abroad.
Fritz’s work has been exhibited widely across the United States and in Canada, Spain, France, The Netherlands, China, Korea, and Japan. Her prints and artist books are in public collections including the Museum of Contemporary Photography, Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art, Museum of Fine Arts Houston Hirsch Library, Bibliothèque Nationale de France, Centro de Iniciativas Culturales de la Universidad de Sevilla, Yale University’s Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library, CU Boulder’s University Libraries Rare and Distinctive Collections, Bryn Mawr College Special Collections, and Nevada Museum of Art’s Center for Art + Environment Archive.
