Midwest Cup makes its way to the Lied Center

LINCOLN, Neb.— The Midwest Cup Show Choir Invitational is a full day of spectacular vocals and intense choreography, held in one of the premier venues for a show choir competition anywhere in the country. This year, approximately 800 musicians will gather to perform before 2,300 seats filled with enthusiastic listeners on January 12 in the Lied Center for Performing Arts.

Haar recital scheduled for Feb. 4 canceled

LINCOLN, Neb.— The February 4, 2019 faculty recital by Associate Professor of Saxophone Paul Haar has been canceled and will be rescheduled for a future date.

School of Art, Art History & Design senior earns a Gilman Scholarship to study abroad in Spain

Lincoln, Neb.--Luis Martinez, a senior art major in the School of Art, Art History & Design, is one of two University of Nebraska–Lincoln students to be awarded a Gilman Scholarship for the spring semester and will study abroad in Spain.

The U.S. Department of State’s Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship is a grant program that enables students of limited financial means to study or intern abroad and to gain skills critical to our national security and economic competitiveness.

Capstone Exhibition on display in Eisentrager-Howard Gallery

Lincoln, Neb.—The Capstone Exhibition will be on display Dec. 7-14 in the Eisentrager-Howard Gallery in Richards Hall at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln. This exhibition features the work of graduating undergraduate candidates for degrees in graphic design and studio art from the School of Art, Art History & Design.

A closing reception will be held on Friday, Dec. 14 from 5-7 p.m. in the gallery with awards announced at 6 p.m.

Wind Ensemble performance will still take place Wednesday night

LINCOLN, Neb.— Due to the national significance of the passing of President George H.W. Bush, the University of Nebraska will be honoring the National Day of Mourning on Wednesday, December 5. However, the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Glenn Korff School of Music’s Wind Ensemble performance will still take place on Wednesday night, December 5 beginning at 7:30 p.m. in Kimball Recital Hall. The performance celebrates the works of Carter Pann, who is currently in residence at the Glenn Korff School of Music.

Cinema, technology visionary Ted Schilowitz presents Q&A at Carson School Dec. 3

Lincoln, Neb.—Ted Schilowitz, the first-ever Futurist-in-Residence for Paramount Pictures, will participate in a Q&A on the future of emerging technologies and cinema on Monday, Dec. 3 from 12:30-1:30 p.m. in Rm. 213 of the Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center. The Q&A is free and open to the university community. Faculty, staff and students are invited to bring their lunch and participate in the session.

Spring Evenings of Dance dates added, time changes

LINCOLN, Neb.— The University of Nebraska-Lincoln Glenn Korff School of Music’s Dance program has added some dates and made time changes to the Spring Evenings of Dance performances.

Evenings of Dance will take place in the Lied Center’s Johnny Carson Studio Theater on April 25-28, 2019. The Thursday, Friday and Saturday performances will all take place starting at 7:30 p.m. The Sunday performance will take place at 2 p.m.

Campus Orchestra performance coming up on Monday, December 3

LINCOLN, Neb.— The University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s Campus Orchestra will present a performance on Monday, December 3 at 7:30 p.m. in Kimball Recital Hall.

The Campus Orchestra is comprised of non-music major students and displays the talent of students representing departments from all over campus.

Tickets are General Admission $5; Students/Seniors $3.

Musical Theatre Showcase takes over Westbrook Recital Hall

LINCOLN, Neb.— If you love musical theatre, the Musical Theatre Showcase night is not to be missed. It will take place on Friday, December 7 at 7:30 p.m.

Scenes from both classic and more contemporary musicals will be performed in a free performance by Nebraska’s award-winning musical theatre students in the Glenn Korff School of Music Westbrook Recital Hall on the University of Nebraska-Lincoln campus.

Coordinator of Musical Theatre Studies Alisa Belflower will host the showcase.

It’s free and open to the public.
