At the Johnny Carson Center for Emerging Media Arts, students are empowered to extend their learning beyond the classroom through a dynamic array of experiential opportunities. From guest artists and internships to center-sponsored trips and support for study abroad opportunities, we make the world our classroom.

IGNITE Colloquium & Guest Speakers

The IGNITE Colloquium and features guest lectures, workshops and seminars around creative development and professional development that inspire Husker ingenuity. Additionally, we invite guest speakers throughout the year that share their experiences and expertise in the field.

Undergraduate Creative Activities & Research Experiences (UCARE)

A paid opportunity to work one-on-one with a faculty research mentor in any major or field. Through UCARE, you’ll work alongside world-class UNL faculty members conducting cutting-edge research that will shape the future of Nebraska and beyond.

First Year Research Experience (FYRE)

The FYRE Program supports full-time, degree-seeking, first-year students who are work-study eligible. Through the program, Federal Work Study awards support a research or creative activities job, under the supervision and guidance of a faculty mentor. Students are employed by the Office of Undergraduate Research & Fellowships or the TRIO/Student Support Services program and are matched with an undergraduate research assistant position on campus.

Student Research Days

The university’s annual Student Research Days Poster Sessions and Creative Exhibitions are a great opportunity for students to present their research and creative work to the larger UNL community. Students can also apply for the Student Research Days Slam, a campus-wide contest in which undergraduate, graduate and postdoctoral researchers from all disciplines are challenged to communicate their work in short, dynamic and engaging presentations.

Cinema 16

Cinema 16 is the film production club at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln. They work to provide students of any major who have an interest in filmmaking with opportunities to do just that—make, talk and learn more about film production. Some of their events include monthly film festivals, social events and guest speakers.
