Gretchen Larsen is an experience designer and artist whose work explores how emerging technologies shape perception, presence, and participation through spatial and interactive systems. She creates site-responsive lighting installations and networked environments that blend traditional craft—woodworking, lamp building, painting—with creative coding, physical computing, and digital fabrication. Recent projects include MBX, a permanent WiFi-controlled lighting installation for a publicly-funded downtown Lincoln music venue, and Home Electronics, a networked interactive environment exhibited at Nebraska Wesleyan University. Larsen holds a PhD in Innovative Learning Technologies and an MFA in Sculpture and Emerging Media Arts from UNL, where she received the Howard Creative Achievement Award. Her pedagogical research on teaching creative coding as an artistic practice has been recognized nationally at ISTE, CSTA, and NAEA, and received an Outstanding Paper Award at EdMedia 2025. She maintains an active VJ practice and is deeply engaged in Lincoln’s emerging media arts community.
