Artists, Scientists and Entrepreneurs in Residence

The Johnny Carson Center for Emerging Media Arts will have a robust artist, scientist and entrepreneur-in-residence program. These industry professionals will come for residencies of various length—from days to entire semesters.

Jospeh Krings

Joseph Krings is an editor of narrative and documentary films. Captain Fantastic, won Best Director at the Cannes Film Festival and earned an Oscar nomination for star Viggo Mortensen. His most recent film After the Wedding starring Julianne Moore and Michelle Williams was the Opening Night film at this year’s Sundance Festival. In documentary, Supermensch, directed by Mike Myers, won Best Documentary at the Hollywood Film Awards and was nominated for an Emmy. Krings was named the 2013 Sally Menke Memorial Editing Fellow by the Sundance Institute. Now living in New York City he is a native of Albion, Nebraska and graduated from the University of Nebraska Lincoln in 1998.

Kevin Cunningham

Kevin Cunningham is an award-winning New York based artist and producer. He is the founder and Executive Artistic Director of 3-Legged Dog Media and Theater Group. Over the last 16 years he also ran 3LD Art & Technology Center, 3-Legged Dog's multi-venue high tech development studio for experimental arts of all kinds in Lower Manhattan. He is known for artistic and technological innovation as well as business innovation in the not for profit arts. He is the author, director and designer of many large-scale interdisciplinary artworks and experiences, both original works and commissioned large-scale experiences.

Bird Runningwater

“Our Stories Onscreen: Creating a Narrative with Native Filmmakers.”

Representations of Native Americans in film have a long history of stereotypes and generalizations. Increasing Indigenous visibility in American culture is a goal of the Sundance Institute’s Native American and Indigenous Film Program. Bird Runningwater supports Indigenous filmmakers as they share their stories. Since 2001, he has worked to build a global Indigenous film community. As Program Director of the Native American and Indigenous Program at Sundance Institute, Runningwater supports Indigenous artists from across the U.S., Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Mexico and other countries.
