Faculty Leaves of Absence

Faculty members may apply for leaves of absence for Faculty Development Fellowships (commonly known as “sabbaticals”) to pursue professional development activities.  These are awarded on a competitive basis; for more information, please visit the Executive Vice Chancellor’s Faculty Development Fellowship site.

Other types of leave may be granted for reasons including military duty, jury duty, temporary disability or sickness, Family Medical Leave, externally funded educational fellowships, or other personal reasons.

How to Apply

Hixson-Lied College faculty members should apply for a leave of absence by following these steps:

  1. Complete the appropriate application form along with any required accompanying documents:

    2. For all other types of leave:
  2. Complete the applicant section of the College’s Faculty Leave of Absence Information Form
  3. Submit all materials to the appropriate School Director

Applications for Faculty Development Fellowship must adhere to the following timeline:

(Please note that these are College deadlines and differ from the schedule described in the EVC’s FDF application form).

Applications for other types of leave should whenever possible adhere to the same timeline.  However, it is understood that some circumstances (e.g., jury duty or medical leaves) require a shorter timeline, in which case materials should be submitted as quickly as possible.
