After Orlando is an international playwright-driven theatre action including over 70 playwrights from the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Africa and Australia. The theatre action piece is comprised of short plays and poems written by Caridad Svich, Zac Kline, Brian Quijada, Ian Rowlands, Cecilia Copeland, Garret Jon Groenveld, Deborah Laufer, Amina Henry, Rohina Malik, Anders Lustgarten, and Elaine Romero.

Directed by senior theatre performance and directing and management major Trey Martinez, UNL’s production of After Orlando features 12 local and student actors performing 11 pieces, both in short scenes and spoken word poetry. Inspired by the tragic June 12th shooting of Pulse Nightclub, the pieces of After Orlando recount the tragedy from the points of view of family, friends, and the victims themselves. All plays and poems in After Orlando have been specifically written and curated in response to the tragic event and will be read at over 40 venues across the country and in the UK throughout Fall 2016.

The national and international theatre action movement of After Orlando is produced in partnership with Missing Bolts Productions (www.missingbolts.com) and NoPassport Theatre Alliance & Press (www.nopassport.org). Missing Bolts is Artistic Directed by Zac Kline and Blair Baker. NoPassport is Artistic Directed by Caridad Svich. Kline and Baker of Missing Bolts note: “As theatremakers, we have the ability to bring together many singular unique voices toward a common goal. We have invited some of the most admired theatre artists worldwide to participate; to share our grief, our anger, our hope and our desire to combat the violence we are now living with on a daily basis.” Svich of NoPassport adds: “Making some healing art, some fiery art, some work that just says,‘We can rise up from and through collective mourning.’”

International and national partner venues for After Orlando include: The Finborough Theatre (London); Rattlestick Playwrights Theatre and the LGTB Center (NYC); Round House Theatre and Olney Theatre Center (Washington, D.C.); The Inge Center (Independence, KS); Theatre@Boston Court and the University of Southern California (Los Angeles); Miami New Drama (Miami), Philadelphia Theatre Company and The University of the Arts (Philadelphia) and many more.
