Acclaimed saxophonist Paul Haar is widely recognized as one of today’s most versatile performers, seamlessly bridging the worlds of jazz and classical music. His artistry has taken him across the United States, Canada, Europe, and South America, with appearances at renowned venues including Carnegie Hall, Spivey Hall, the Shanghai Conservatory, the Theatro da Paz in Brazil, and the Tanglewood Institute.

As a soloist, Dr. Haar has commissioned and premiered works by composers such as Stacy Garrop, Jack Cooper, Leslie Hogan, Ben Boone, Kenneth Fuchs, and Randal Snyder. He has been featured with wind ensembles from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, The University of Texas at Austin, The University of Tennessee, Pacific Lutheran University, and The University of South Carolina. His orchestral collaborations include performances with the Tanglewood Music Center Fellowship Orchestra, the Arapahoe Philharmonic, the Austin Symphony, the Asheville Symphony, the Lincoln Symphony, and the Omaha Symphony.

In the jazz idiom, Dr. Haar has shared the stage with legendary artists including Gary Foster, Dave Brubeck, James Moody, The Manhattan Transfer, Toshiko Akiyoshi, and Phil Woods, and has backed iconic performers such as Lou Rawls, The Chiffons, Tony Bennett, Michael Bublé, Gladys Knight, and The Temptations. His recording credits include projects with the Boulevard Big Band (featuring Eric Marienthal and Kevin Mahogany) on the Sea Breeze label, the Osland Saxophone Quartet, and The Chamber Music of Jack Cooper on the Centaur label. He also performs regularly with The Nebraska Saxophone Project, Group Sax, the Nebraska Jazz Orchestra, and his own duo and quartet.

A dedicated educator and clinician, Dr. Haar has presented master classes at the Shanghai Conservatory, the Carlos Gomes Music Conservatory in Brazil, the International Association for Jazz Education Conferences, the Midwest International Band and Orchestra Clinic, the Jazz Education Network Conference, and numerous state and regional music education associations. His writings have appeared in The Instrumentalist, JazzTimes, The Saxophone Journal—where he was a featured columnist for nearly a decade—and other leading publications. From 2018-2023 he published THE SAXOPHONIST Magazine which was read in over 40 countries worldwide.  In 2024 Haar produced his first featured recording, Too Late, Too Soon.  

A native of Fremont, Nebraska, Dr. Haar holds B.M. and M.M. degrees from the University of Kansas and a D.M.A. in Saxophone Performance with an emphasis in Jazz Studies from the University of Texas at Austin. He is an artist for D’Addario, Rousseau Mouthpieces, Conn-Selmer, and Keyleaves products, and currently serves as Associate Professor of Saxophone at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln.
