Lincoln, Neb.--The UNL Symphony Orchestra presents a concert titled “Daybreak!” on Saturday, May 3 at 7:30 p.m. in the newly renovated Kimball Recital Hall. The concert is free and open to the public.

Kimball Recital Hall reopened this spring following a $15 million renovation, supported by the Nebraska Legislature. The lobby was expanded and the hall was modernized with new fixed seating, updated flooring, advanced audio and video capabilities, a new lighting system and redesigned green rooms. It is also fully accessible.

The UNL Symphony Orchestra is under the direction of Tyler White, Professor of Conducting and Composition and Director of Orchestras.

The program features several works concerning the eternal cycles of dawn, sunlight, sunset and night. Works include the Prelude to Modest Mussorgsky's opera "Khovanshchina" (Dawn on the Moscow River), Carl Nielsen's "Helios Overture," the world premiere of Tyler White's trombone concerto "Night Journey" (with Professor Scott Anderson, soloist), and Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 5 in E minor.

“The UNL Symphony Orchestra, Nebraska’s oldest orchestra, is thrilled to present the inaugural concert of the state’s newest performing venue, the remodeled Kimball Recital Hall,” White said. “Not only is the new hall gorgeous to look at, the acoustics are magnificent.”

The UNL Symphony Orchestra is made up of students from across the university. The UNL Symphony maintains a national reputation for excellence, recognized by invitations to perform at national and regional conventions of music educators, and by four awards from the National Opera Association.
