Soprano Amy Guevara brings a distinguished record of performance and a deep commitment to vocal pedagogy in her role as Lecturer of Vocal Studies at the Glenn Korff School of Music at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln. Recognized by Opera News for “bringing sunny passion to Carmela” in Manuel de Falla’s, La Vida Breve, Ms. Guevara has enjoyed a dynamic career as a performer, educator, and mentor.
Her performance experience spans opera, concert, and recital stages across the United States and internationally. Operatic credits include leading roles such as Susanna (Le Nozze di Figaro), the Mother (Amahl and the Night Visitors), Rosalinde (Die Fledermaus), Vanessa (Vanessa), Salud (La Vida Breve), Lucy (The Telephone), Valencienne (The Merry Widow), and Monica (The Medium). She has performed with numerous professional and regional companies, including Opera Theatre of Northern Virginia, Victorian Lyric Opera (VA), Mesa Light Opera (AZ), Lyric Opera Theatre (VA), Opera in the Ozarks (AR), Redding Opera, and Indiana Opera Theatre (IN).
As a concert and recital artist, Ms. Guevara has appeared as a soloist with the Phoenix Symphony in Bach’s St. John Passion and has been featured by the Redding Performing Arts Society (CA), Reston Performing Arts (VA), and the Dumbarton Recital Series in Washington, D.C.
Ms. Guevara has extensive experience teaching voice at the collegiate level and has maintained a thriving private and academic studio for over two decades. At the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, she teaches applied voice and a range of supporting courses, including Vocal Pedagogy and Art Song I and II. She plays a vital role in the opera program as director of the Opera Scenes Program and served as Assistant Director for the university’s 2022 production of Le Nozze di Figaro. Her ongoing collaborative work with faculty and students includes performances in the Ukraine Song Recital, the Faculty/Student Opera Scenes Series, Brahms’ Liebeslieder Waltzes, and a Spanish Song recital with Dr. Sergio Ruiz highlighting lesser-known vocal works of Federico García Lorca.
Ms. Guevara’s students have achieved notable recognition at the national, regional, and state levels through the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) and have participated in prestigious international opera and art song programs in Austria, France, and Ireland. Her graduates pursue successful careers as music educators, performers, and scholars, with many gaining admission to highly competitive graduate programs in vocal performance and pedagogy. Her teaching philosophy emphasizes healthy vocal technique, stylistic versatility, and artistic authenticity.
In addition to her operatic and classical work, Ms. Guevara has a strong foundation in musical theatre performance. Her credits include leading and featured roles in productions such as West Side Story, The Music Man, H.M.S. Pinafore, Oklahoma!, Sunday in the Park with George, and The Gondoliers, among others. This diverse stage experience informs her teaching, particularly in the areas of musical theatre and contemporary commercial music (CCM). She is committed to training versatile performers and regularly works with students pursuing careers in musical theatre, helping them develop healthy vocal technique, stylistic authenticity, and expressive stagecraft across a variety of genres.
In recognition of her artistic contributions and commitment to the field, Ms. Guevara was named a Distinguished Member of Sigma Alpha Iota International Music Sorority in 2023.
A native of California, Ms. Guevara completed her undergraduate studies in Indiana, performed professionally along the East Coast in opera and musical theatre, and earned her Master of Music in Opera from Arizona State University.
