Anita Breckbill is head of the Music Library at the University of Nebraska—Lincoln. Prior to her current position she worked as a music cataloger at UNL and also at Stanford University where she cataloged scores as part of a Title II-C grant. Her M.L.I.S. is from the University of California at Berkeley. She also holds a D.M.A. and an M.F.A. in flute performance from the University of Iowa and a B.A. in music from Goshen College, Goshen, Indiana.
Dr. Breckbill has been working on French music publishing and distribution history since 2004, using resources in the Rokahr Family Archive of opera scores. She has published on music circulating libraries in 19th-century France, on publishing scores by subscription in France, on the musical caricatures done by Andre Gill in Paris in the 1860s and 70s. She has also published on Charles Dickens and the flute, and on the use of discovery catalogs for music. Other current research interests include the baton Wagner used to conduct Siegfried Idyll.
