Welcome All Wonders holiday choral concert is Dec. 5

Lincoln, Neb.--Welcome All Wonders: A Family Yuletide Festival of Choirs will be Sunday, Dec. 5 at 3 and 7:30 p.m. in the Newman Center at 16th and Q streets in Lincoln. The concert is free and open to the public.

Five traditional choirs from the Glenn Korff School of Music will combine to sing holiday favorites, traditional carols and other separate and combined works. The choirs include University Singers, Chamber Singers, Varsity Chorus, University Chorale and the All-Collegiate Chorus.

The annual Student Dance Project is a program of original work by student choreographers in the Glenn Korff School of Music’s dance program.

Lincoln, Neb.--Bernie Su, a three-time primetime Emmy award-winning short form and interactive creator and showrunner will be featured at the Johnny Carson Center for Emerging Media Arts' IGNITE on Friday, Dec. 3.

Korff School graduate student wins two international competitions

Lincoln, Neb.--Rylee Worstell, a Master of Music graduate student in vocal performance in the Glenn Korff School of Music, has won first prize in two categories of the Great Composers international competition, in the Art of Opera and the Art of Art Song.

The Great Composers competition is a series of international music competitions for young performers. The competitions are for instrumentalists, singers and chamber groups.

Theatrix’s ‘The Thanksgiving Play’ performed at 3 locations

Lincoln, Neb.--Theatrix, the student-run theatre company in the Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film, presents a staged reading of “The Thanksgiving Play.” 

A troupe of terminally “woke” teaching artists scrambles to create a pageant that somehow manages to celebrate both Turkey Day and Native American Heritage Month in this play by Larissa Fasthorse.

Performances will take place over three days in three locations in Lincoln:
• Nov. 20 at 7:30 p.m. in the Swanson Auditorium at the city campus union, 14thand R streets.

Dion engages with art students in visit

Lincoln, Neb.--Conceptual artist Mark Dion visited the School of Art, Art History & Design Oct. 25-28 as part of the Hixson-Lied Visiting Artist & Lecture Series.

Dion’s work examines the ways in which dominant ideologies and public institutions shape our understanding of history, knowledge and the natural world. He frequently collaborates with museums of natural history, aquariums, zoos and other institutions mandated to produce public knowledge on the topic of nature.

Three Korff School students win MTNA state competitions

Lincoln, Neb.--Three graduate students in the Glenn Korff School of Music won the state MTNA (Music Teachers National Association) competitions in piano, brass and woodwinds in October.

Rebekah Stiles, a second-year master’s student in piano performance, studying with Marguerite Scribante Professor of Piano Paul Barnes, won the MTNA Steinway & Songs Young Artist Piano Competition in Nebraska.
