Barger elected President-elect of International Clarinet Association

Lincoln, Neb.--Glenn Korff School of Music Professor of Clarinet Diane Barger was elected President-elect of the International Clarinet Association (ICA).

She will begin a two-year President-elect term Sept. 1 and then move to the position of President on Sept. 1, 2022, for a two-year term, followed by a two-year term as Past-President beginning Sept. 1, 2024.

Schuttler, Nederhiser awarded Glenn Korff Distinguished Artist/Scholar Awards

The Glenn Korff Distinguished Undergraduate and Graduate Artist/Scholar Awards were awarded as part of the Glenn Korff School of Music Honors Day Convocation on Thursday, April 30, 2020 as part of a virtual, online celebration.

Intended to recognize and reward excellence in performance and/or scholarship in the Glenn Korff School of Music, the winners of these prestigious awards for 2020-21 are – Undergraduate: Maren Schuttler; Graduate: Rebecca Nederhiser.

Maren Schuttler is originally from Bellevue, NE. She is a junior double major in Dance and Elementary Education.

UNL Jazz Singers ‘fly away’ with DownBeat Award

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln Glenn Korff School of Music Jazz Singers were recently named a winner in the 43rd annual DownBeat Student Music Awards. The Jazz Singers are winners in the Large Vocal Jazz Ensemble Undergraduate College Outstanding Performances category.

Established in 1976, the DownBeat Student Music Awards are considered the most prestigious awards in jazz education. Hundreds of musicians, music educators and music industry professionals received their first international recognition as DownBeat Student Music Award winners.

Honors Day 2020 recipients announced

Lincoln, Neb.--The Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts has announced the 2020 recipients of our Honors Day awards. While we are unable to gather in person for our annual Honors Day Dinner, we want to recognize all of these outstanding students, faculty, staff and alumni.

Note: The Glenn Korff School of Music's Vreeland Awards and Porter Award in Dance will be announced at the Korff School's virtual Honors Convocation on April 30.

Three Husker ceramic artists selected as Ceramics Monthly 2020 Emerging Artists

Lincoln, Neb.--Taylor Sijan, a second-year Master of Fine Arts student in ceramics, alumna Iren Tete (M.F.A. 2018) and incoming Master of Fine Arts student Andy Bissonnette are among 20 ceramic artists nationally chosen as 2020 Emerging Artists by Ceramics Monthly magazine.

There were more than 300 submissions to the annual Emerging Artist competition.

Alumni Board Awards announced

Lincoln, Neb.--The Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts Alumni Board has announced their alumni board awards for 2020.

Due to COVID-19, the College will not be having its annual Honors Day celebration. These awards will be recognized at a later date. Additional Honors Day awards will be announced on our website and social media @UNLArts on April 24.
