GKSOM cancels all summer youth camps for 2020
Lincoln, Neb.--The University of Nebraska-Lincoln Glenn Korff School of Music has made the tough decision to cancel all of its summer youth camps due to continuing concerns of COVID-19 (coronavirus).
The summer camps that were to have taken place on the UNL campus included the Nebraska Show Choir Camp, the Middle School Band Camp and the High School Marching Band Camp.
All of the camps were canceled to ensure the safety of all of the campers and their families during this time.

2020-2021 Student Ambassadors announced
Lincoln, Neb.--The Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts has selected 24 undergraduate students to be Hixson-Lied College Student Ambassadors for 2020-2021.
The Student Ambassador program, under the direction of Director of Recruitment Alfonzo Cooper, Jr., consists of outstanding undergraduate students who promote pride and develop awareness of the Hixson-Lied College and its academic programs.

Teaching music lessons in the online environment
Of course, in this new reality that we are all facing, the way instruction is being delivered at Glenn Korff School of Music, especially in regard to private lessons, has changed. With one-on-one, in-person lessons impossible, the shift is being made to the online environment.

Svoboda named 2020 Alumni Master for Hixson-Lied College
Lincoln, Neb.--University of Nebraska–Lincoln Glenn Korff School of Music alumnus Richard Svoboda (B.M.E. 1978) is one of nine alumni named to the 2020 class of Alumni Masters by the Nebraska Alumni Association.
The Alumni Masters were to be recognized on campus during Alumni Masters Week from April 1-3 and at the Nebraska Medallion Dinner on April 3; however, both events have been postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Alumni Masters will be given the chance to accept their honors when the events are rescheduled.

Hixson-Lied Visiting Artist Lecture scheduled for March 18 is canceled
Lincoln, Neb.—The Hixson-Lied Visiting Artist Lecture by Kristian Bjornard, originally scheduled for Wednesday, March 18 at 5:30 p.m. in Richards Hall Rm. 15 on the University of Nebraska–Lincoln campus, has been canceled.
The School of Art, Art History & Design’s Hixson-Lied Visiting Artist & Scholar Lecture Series brings notable artists, scholars and designers to Nebraska each semester to enhance the education of students.

Canceled: Visiting artists Jennifer and Kevin McCoy to present screenings at Carson Center, Fiendish Plots
Updated March 12, 2020: The guest artist residency of Jennifer and Kevin McCoy, listed below, has been postponed to Fall 2020. (Date to be announced.) All events, including the film screening at the Carson Center, the film screening and exhibition at Fiendish Plots, and the residency by dancer Magda Kaczmarska scheduled for March 16-20 are canceled.

GKSOM student Watanabe’s recital to be live webcast
The University of Nebraska-Lincoln Glenn Korff School of Music has added a Student Showcase Recital to the webcast schedule. On Sunday, March 8 at 6:30 p.m. live from Kimball Recital Hall, Composer and Conductor Susumu Watanabe will present the world premiere performance of his dissertation piece, “Concertante for Sho and Jazz Orchestra,” featuring internationally renowned sho soloist Naoyuki Manabe and a 16-piece jazz orchestra. The Gagaku Ensemble will also perform as part of the recital.
